May pick my RTX today or tomorrow. I just ordered some Bergstrom 6"triple edge for the front and 240 trail grabbers. After reading 10 pages of whether or not to stud, I went with the trail grabbers for added grip in some "northeast" icy situations. I know these won't provide a good hole-shot, but they only weigh a couple of pounds. I spoke with Scott Bergstrom and explained I like high speed runs and was worried of "throwing" a screw through the front cooler. He gave me 1/2hr of his time once again and eased my worries.
I'm not trying to promote anything or anyone, but this guy deserves some recognition. He doesn't try and pawn off his products, he'll take the time to speak with you, answer all your questions and explain his theories, IE: shimming skis, etc.. I used the triple carbides last year and found myself doing circles and s-turns on pavement at the gas pumps, while my buddies would be doing the typical full turn slide and bump the snow edges to get pointed in the right direction. Great product! He even admits sales go down since these carbides last longer and don't require replacement nearly as often. Oh well, can't wait to ride this thing, we just need one more good snow storm in Mass!

Don't run those trail grabbers. My neighbors sled spit a whole bunch out. All it takes is one to pierce your front (pop can thin) heat exchanger :ORC

Thanks Mighty, I may not put them on. I found a bunch of reading on them while doing a search in here. It seems most people had bad luck with the other brands of screw ins and not the bergstrom brand? Bergstom has a 3/4" thread depth. He said I could send them back if I don't use them. Hell of a guy.

If our sleds were fan cooled it would be different. I just read where a guy punchered the front exchanger on his GT and he's not studded
So needless to say, it won't take a whole hell of alot to ruin your ride so why chance it :ORC

His carbides can't be beat - they are far and away the best! The trail grabbers are another story. I put them in my parents 550 fan sleds and they work great in that application. I would NOT, however, put them in a performance sled. Mighty is correct - there isn't much holding them in. I have no doubt that some would come spitting out.
Yes, I was aware of the thin un-ribbed front exchanger. That is what him and I talked about and still is my main concern. I have no doubt he would actually pay to have it repaired if that ever happened but I really can't afford the down time that would go with it. Probably return them and go with 144 1.375 hornets with tall nuts.
