Who cares about the 98 SRX, that was what thirteen year's ago but apparently it was still more dependable than what he was towing,LOL. After 03 the F-7's were dog's. This thread was about Doo's dependability anyway and they Doo have issue's!!!!!

ok,the srx had bad cranks for a season or 2,now let's talk about doo's bad motor years, everybody blows there doo's at a certain point on any year sleds up to now, seen it sooo many times,i was also a victim, and my bro,and my dad,and my cousins and the list goes on an on,still have doo parts in my garage, pwa said:Mad Russian said:All i can say is Unbelivible. This past weekend in the U.P. i seen more sleds broken down then i ever seen in the last 7 yrs that i been riding a snowmobille. 90% of them were ski doo and the rest were cats and poos. I even seen a husbend towing his wife and there kid behind the wife. So when they stoped i had to ask what happend. Well the man was verry pissed off and just told me that he is done with ski doo and is going to buy a yamaha for next season. I guess his wifes 600 e tec had blown the motor 3rd time this season and his sons 800r keeps blowing belts. The husbend was pulling bouth of them on a 1998 srx 700. When is relaibilaty going to come before light wait and cool graphics? I do not understand!
Ehem, 1998 SRX and reliability. I know one and another 1998 SRX 600 and 700 who had lots of crank problems. And no pics... ya you know. If I take my base of information I would say that 600 e-tec is pretty reliable. The ones with problems what I know about are Poo 800 and Doo 800's. About Cat... I dont see that they had any major problems with engines since 2003. Pretty reliable machines I would say. I think this i BS.

My Yamaha is a POS. I wrench on it 8-10 hours a week to keep it from falling apart and never move without a towrope. That doesn't mean I don't love it and I love riding the hell out of it. If you are riding groomed trails then Yamaha is the way to go, if you are out of bounds, not so much.

If i had to work on any sled 8 to 10 hrs a week i would not own that sled period! And i think u need more relaibilaty off trail then on. After all on trail u see other people and you can get help. Much harder to get the sled out if you got 3-4 feet of powder!

No groomed trails around here. My bro does 8-10 hours of sled work per season for two yamahas, including summer prep. We ride hard and fast across the rugged South Coast of Newfoundland. Where most sledders around here take 45-60 minutes to run between landmarks, we do it in 15 minutes. Between two sleds its been 1 rear axel/wheels failure/ 1 oil tank crack/ 2-3 skid wheels for 5500+ miles. Its been gas and go for us.

we all know they ride like a dream, cant take it away from them, but for the amount of money you pay for them and being in 2011,you would think they would know how to build a motor that lasts, cuz witout a motor,it doesnt ride that good, dont care if you have 3 year warranty, the downtime is still there, you need a back up sled,so yamahas are not that expensive if you think about it

There are guys in my club with over 13000km on their Doos and they have never touched them. never had any issues with my Cats either. I think a lot of you guys blow this way out of proportion.

I have ridden them and they are not worth a rebuild every tew thousand mile's. Over $800 in part's just to do the top end on an E tec and yes if the crank bearing's last that long they should be replaced at that time or it won't be long. My dealer, Cat, Yam and Doo dealer had four 2011 800 E-tec's waiting for part's at the same time. The service manager said (quote) they would be like Maytag repair men if they didn't have DOO. If this is acceptable in 2011 than all I can say is spend your money where you like.KevinS said:Dimebag said:kviper said:Oh by the way! Change bearing's when changing piston's, No big deal. yesterday I saw 2 brand new Artic Cat F8's with 30km's broke down on the side of the trail. I think that says alot right there. And beside me my buddy has 19 000 miles on his Viper and hasnt laid a hand on it yet.

Guys, probly not going to win a argument about SkiDoo or other brand reliability on this forum. Lets face it, they ALL have their issues, you just have to pick your poison. I will say that Yamaha's are able to limp themselves out most of the time, but a blown motor is a weekend busting breakdown. I had 0 issues with my F7 while watching my buddy wrench on his Apex, but that Apex went 8k before selling it and was always the fastest sled in our group. My Nytro never left me stranded but sure made me swear and catch allot of sh!t when the thing wouldn't start because of relays, your hands get real cold when your trying to thaw relays at -15. I am not brand loyal, and was going to buy a new XRS 800E, but seeing that they still are a ticking time bomb I decided to buy a new Cat......hope Yamaha finds a way to bring me back.....
