Hey guys, tired of snow and ice buildup around my tail light and the 100# that ends up in my tunnel. I have access to Aluminium scrap and a shear at work so I was thinking I would make something up similar to what schmidt bros sells. How big is thier plate?? I was thinking I could get a 12"x8" in there to clear the muffler. It probably wont help allot with the ice buildup problem but at least my tail light will remain clear. I want to go flush inside the tunnel not on top of the protectors. I was also wondering how the aluminum seat support/ exhaust shroud comes off?? I removed the seat and the plastic, pulled the nuts off around the perimiter and removed the plugs in the shroud and the two bolts under the plugs but it still seems to be attached, any ideas??? Thanks

I cut a template out of cardboard then cut an aluminum plate. It was installed from underneath the tunnel with a few rivets (I didn't have to remove the seat). It didn't eliminate icing but did reduce it and also helps keep the snow off the tail light.

The rounded end goes to the front and fits around the muffler. The plate covers 3/4 of the muffler.

You will need to pull the exhaust can off to get the seat heat shield off. I just cut a piece to fit from the rear of the sled to the headers. My pics are some where on this site. Then I pop rivited it to rails. So mine actually goes under the stock exhaust. It really helped me but you will still get some snow built up in there but not as much. And it seems to fall off alot better.

The only extra pre-caution I took was that I used Hi-temp paint under the heat sheild. Rode for 200 miles in 30 degree weather and I havn't had any problems yet.

Made and installed it tonite. I actually cut it a little wide so I ended up bending the edge so it would clear the muffler enough, I opted not to notch around the muffler. Looks pretty good, hope it works!!!!
