I had my airbox off to service my freaking battery (design miss) and love the sound of the motor without the airbox. How can I get something between stock and race bike sound without destroying the motor?

Fix Power Sports and Allen Ulmer sell airbox mods that work. If you want to do it yourself, Rockerdan has a thread out there thats a couple of years old that indicates how to do a homemade box. Using a fuel adder will yield good results. The motor is already lean as it is.

I wouldn't try to mod the airbox myself, heard that it could be screwed up easily. I would look at ulmer racings stuff

I wouldn't be afraid to do the mod. I followed Dan's directions and mine tured out great. no regrets. I'm sure that Ulmer's finished product is a little nicer, but if you want to save a lot of money, don't be affraid to do the "Ram Air Mod" yourself. The sound is awesome. If you don't like the results, just buy another air box lid. You can adjust your low speed fuel mixture easily too. All you need is a paper clip.
