Does the 09 xp 800r not have a chip to burn off? At what mileage? Blue dave is your apex a shorty? I think that the 136 has a bit better hook up but still needs some work to get the power to the ground.

Classic! Nice one.Blue Dave said:Now for the part of the story that you guys are going to love. At the end of the night I ended up beating him all the way back to his cabin by the length of a tow rope. Yep, that's right, the '09 XP 800 engine blew up while we were running the river at about 100 MPH. Locked up solid, couldn't even pull the rope.
Blue Dave said:Well, back to the original subject. We ran the Apex & the '09 XP 800 R on the river yesterday and it was a little different story. I still couldn't overcome his holeshot from a dead stop even on a perfect "Apex surface". On hard packed snow he still killed me out of the hole but after the initial jump he couldn't pull away from me and we stayed locked together about 40 feet apart until he would "let off" at about 100 MPH.
When we would both punch it at about 50 MPH side by side I would pull away from him and he couldn't match my top end (I saw 124 on the "dream meter").

Then I got the truth out of him on the modifications. In addition to the clutching work that I already knew about, he had the head shaved as well. I am not sure how much the shaved head was helping him in the races but I am sure that it helped the engine blow up!
I just wish that I had a picture of his new XP 800 being pulled by my good ol' reliable Apex!
