My 08 Apex LTX GT's fastest speed is 126 on the Speedo which was 110 mph on the GPS in my pocket. This was on lightly snowcovered icey lake.
Seems the speedo reads 10mph high from 60 to 80 mph and then reads 16mph high after that. By the way I am 260 lbs in my birthday suit.

I can pull them all hard in the top end. All races were on a hard surface. Three of them I raced from a stop. They all had more studs than I did. I just have 48 for now. They would get a 3-5 sled had start, by 90-100 I could catch them and pull a lenth or two to 3-4. I run 3 at a time.
Last year I could just run with a 800r at the top. All I did was add dragon flys, 14" track and a hidle single pipe. With a airbox mod that I had last year.
I'm happy with it. I wonder how much more I would gain with a pc111 and the timeing box?
48 studs does nothing until about 30, and after that the less rotating weight helps.
I will start adding more studs in multiples of 24 at a time, to get the bottom end traction reasonable.

IMHO if you want to run / race you need at least one stud per h.p....
and studding all up the middle is a waste although required for the ripsaw

Run 1.450 studs and run 120 studs, this way it will keep the rotating down to a min..

Way back when...I remachined the combustion chambers and squish band on my 88 Plus 521. It took .008" to clean up. I then took the .008" off the head, so I did not technically 'mill the head'. I did check squish and it was in the safe zone. My plugs used to run on the rich side. With no other mods at all, my plugs ran light brown, I picked up over 2 mpg trail riding, and about 5 mph on top on our hard packed road. It woke the sled up for sure. A friend working in the same tool and die shop took .030" off his blizzard 7500 (the old 340), didn't measure squish and blew it up so bad it scrapped the engine.

SledFreak,
SumpBuster is talking about shaved heads because my buddy with the XP 800 had a shaved head. We have been discussing if that helped him beat my Apex in some of the races and if it contributed to his engine blowing up.

my BANSHEE has been poked & stroked, after i milled my head to the max which is 80 thou [wanna keep it lookin stock] temps went up,plugs looked a little different, set the timing to 6 and went to full 110 octane instead of 50/50.my point is you have to keep an eye on things when you mill heads even if the motor is stock.how much did he take off/why did he wanna do that?to beat you?i'm sure he loved the exhaust in his face the whole way back!

He rode on the back of my other buddies Arctic Cat 600. I followed the Cat all the way back with the Doo in tow so in the end he got beat by both the Yamaha & the Cat!

Oh, Alright, but yes I shaved the heads and ported my REV 800.... I blew it up during a drag race right after I passed the guy. I put 16 miles on it, since I did the mods... What a waste of 2000.00 bucks... Put it back to stock and blew it up in 40 miles.... New crank and 2 new jugs later and it was finally running again. Good times.... Now, I have a 4 stroke... ski-doo's just don't have the toloerances to expand... They are maxed out.... But of course even in stock form, they blow up just looking at them...

you always need to check the squish, cause when you dont it usually costs $$$$$$$$$$$ to fix

Well guys, the story just keeps getting better! My buddy got his '09 XP 800 R back from the dealer on Thursday with two new pistons and one new cylinder. He is still running the dealer installed head mod. I have also since found out that he has a few other "secret mods" that he is not discussing.
We took off yesterday up here at Lake Vermillion in northern MN and he made it a mile and a half! The coolant bottle was completely empty and the engine was only running on one cylinder.
He was obviously done for the weekend, so after we got him back the rest of our group took off riding. There was another XP 800 in the group. By the end of the day that '08 XP 800 burned down and also needed a tow back.
The '08 XP 800 had the same head mod as the '09 plus they both had an aftermarket "Y" pipe and silencer. I am not sure if the mods were directly responsible for the break downs but is seems that the XP 800's are certainly running on the edge of reliability from the factory and any performance mod pushes them over that edge.
It looks like I may need to invest in a mod of my own if I keep riding with these Doo guys, a tow hitch!
