GPS mount on Viper

It's in the trailer, but I plan to take it out tomorrow and get a few more break in miles on it in the field. Wish we had more snow. We got an inch this evening in top of the 3-5 on the ground, but the sun has been out off and on.

I'm tempted to use a single stud and nut with a washer, but for now I have the 2 bolt base mocked up. Thinking the single mount may stress the riser.

Looks good. I added the handle bar bag and am looking for different mounting options. I have same type of mount as you.

Here us the mock up of what im doing. Need to paint the brackets and fine tune the placement but you get the idea. It's a ram mount set up wiyh a zumo and custom brackets with the other guages.

Nuvi & Zumo users, does your battery stay charged on an all day ride? My Nuvi 2595 will not charge without a heater. Great set-ups here!

My nuvi does not keep a very long charge. I leave it plugged in on both sled and car most of the time

My Nuvi 2595, even plugged in, will not charge in the cold. I've resorted to using a grip heater, to keep it warm enough, allowing it to charge. My Garmin E-Trex, or Lowrance XOG, did not have this issue. Just the Nuvi.

I am trying to figure out how to run my IDD off the new Polaris Axis on the viper then all the trails and way points are logged into one system. And it will work in the cold.

The Montana doesn't have an issue until it gets under 10deg or so, when it does turn on the backlite to full brightness and turn off the screen timeout so it stays on all the time. That heats the unit enough to continue functioning. This is actually in the montana manual under extreme cold use.

The same thing worked on my magellen as well.

I almost bought a nuvi 2595 today but the guy said that its not waterproof. Do you guys leave them expose while your riding or just when you need them? Or do you run a waterproof case that the guy didn't know about?

My Nuvi 2595 is in the open. No case. I take it off when stopping for lunch. Trail side, I have a knit cover for it. Mainly to retain heat, but keeps falling snow off as well. The Montana, or Zumo, seems to be a better unit for snowmobiling. The Nuvi 2595 does not charge in the cold. An accessory heater is needed to keep the battery, and charging circuit, warm. At least that's my experience. If you use it for fishing, put it away if it starts raining. Light mist is OK. I've had mine since Christmas 2012. At 3-6X's less expensive, than the Montana or Zumo, I guess I'm willing to work around the cold charging issue.

I started with 76CSX which is water proof and will even float (forsale if u r interested). I now use a Montana. I always had both plugged in with a power cord right from the battery. I never had any issue with either one for temperature or weather. I used the ram powered mounts with both.

My zumo is waterproof and I've never had a charging issue with it. Always hardwired to the battery so it stays on. I use it on the harley in the summer and it's got xm satellite on it. Was pretty expensive but I ride a lot of miles on the bike so it was worth it to me. I just load the maps from Red Pine Mapping on it in the winter and it's good to go.

Good to know. If the Montana had a 5" screen, I'd spring for one. For now the Nuvi, with the warmer, which works fine, will have to do. I too like the Red Pine maps.
