GPS mount

Where did you find that photo of the OSP plates?

If I had a Montana, I wouldn't worry about it, but I'm trying to be frugal and use an old Nuvi left over from the pre-Google Maps era. ;-)
If it works well (or even if it doesn't) I'll chime in and let everyone know my findings.
Nothing wrong with being frugal. I just "bit the bullet" and bought a Montana for multiple outdoor uses years ago, and have been very pleased with the result. I have used it in boats, on motorcycles, four wheelers and snowmobiles, and it has been great. The only real downside of the Montana (and other outdoor GPS units) is the small screen size. I would definitely prefer to use a GPS with a full size automotive screen, so I am hoping for your success with the heated case!

I have a 5 inch Nuvi model 55 wired directly to the battery with a converter wire so it stays on all the time with no worry about not working in the cold and allows me to look at it when I stop and shut the sled off if I want. I can easily see it with the mount from trailsystems.com being above my gauges while I am driving. I take the GPS off the sled quickly when I go in somewhere and put it in my pocket so no worry about being stolen and I can check out the next destination. The model 55 or newer has the route option which allows you to make a predetermined route you want to take with vvmapping. Also I have easy access to my dash bag. The setup works slick and I think the screen is just the right size. Been doing this for the past 4 seasons with no problems with no GPS protection other then being right behind the windshield.

I too have a Garmin Montana and never had any issues with it the colder temps. One of my riding buddies also has a GPS but his is a Nuvi where he has it wired directly to the battery and is exposed to the elements. A couple years ago between Christmas and New Years while riding up in the U.P. where it was -22 w/ wind chill, he did not have any issues with his GPS.

Gotta get me one of those meters, that looks cool.

I'll take one! I need some other parts too, I just left you a voicemail :)

I also have been running a Garmin Nuvi 55 for the last 4 or 5 years. Mine like yamarider13’s has been unprotected from the elements other than the windshield with no issues. And even if it does go bad you can get another one on eBay for under $20.

I just drilled holes in the plastic behind the gauges for my ram mount or I’d be interested in the OSP style.
