grease fittings

This needs to get back to Yamaha ASAP you guys that are experiencing this issue need to get your sleds back to the dealer and MAKE them register the issue with Yamaha. Follow the procedure listed here www.ty4stroke.com/viewtopic.php?t=16369 Part of the setup is greasing if it's not being done at the factory and not being done at the dealership someone is dropping the ball. Ask your dealer if greasing the skid is part of the setup checklist if it is make them do it if not have them register a complaint with Yamaha.

On a side note if you don't want to haul your sled into your dealer take pictures of the problem and hand deliver them to your dealer in a file format if you have a digital camera. They can then forward the picture on to Yamaha as part of the complaint ;)!

i just tried greasing my attak and it was doing the same thing the grease was just coming out the backside of the zerk

How in the world can Yamaha mess up such a simple thing as installing grease fittings. If they have to now fix all these sleds, what a pain for them. Someones head is going to roll. I bet alot of people will think that their sled is greased when in fact the grease never got in at all. maybe Yamaha has a lot of bushings they need to sell. :?

If a the grease fittings in my rear skid are my biggest issue then Im a happy camper. Sure it shouldnt happen, but the rings and rod bearings in my Rotax shouldnt have failed either, twice.

thank you every one i thought i was the only crazy guy out there they better fix this before it snows

TT670 is right on. This is a small issue when you compare it to some of the stuff that Poo Doo and sCat have had to deal with. It will still bug me if I can't get grease in my sled. Oh well

i agree totally, if this is the only problem, no big deal. but seeing all the technology on this sled like motor and just about everything else on it, it seems pretty cheesy to me to just put one small tack weld on these things. i have a two and a half hour drive to my dealer and i sure aint gonna drive that over grease zerks. other than that this is the baddest looking sled by far that i have ever bought or seen.

Some of the it is because everything is so tight. I have taken the zerks out and they shoot grease fine, there is just little room to allow it to flow....It will have room as you ride. More commen on the pneumatic guns, try a hand gun and you can force the grease in.

Here are a few pics of one of the zerks. As you can see grease does leak out around the zerk but grease does flow out to the ends of the shaft.

You can see the grease at the end of the shaft as well as around the zerk fitting.

Before you grease rear skid, clean all zerk fittings @ area of leak with brake cleaner, MAKE SURE AREA IS GREASE FREE & apply very small amount of green loctite, let dry 24 hrs & reapply another very small amount of green loctite. you may need to repete this several times but dont grease fittings between applications, VERY important that you dont allow loctite to flow past fittings & into shafts, that is why you use several small applications & allow to dry. this should fill in gaps & seal threads. wait several days after last application before greasing. this should be as good as any fix that Yamaha will come up with.

I have repaired this problem several times on rear skids. Be sure to clean the area very good with a solvent and wire brush or sand paper. Then apply a small amount of "JB Weld" (available at most hardware stores)around the zerk fitting. This has never failed on me.

I'm so looking forward to repairing this on my new Apex GT. (If it ever arrives)

Why the heck would Yamaha not thread these grease fittings in place. Sure it cost more to fabricate but it is also the sure fix. I don't have a single piece of farm equipment with a tack welded grease nipple. Is the wall thickness of these crosser tubes too thin? I'm sure four of five fine threads is enough to hold these grease nipples in position.
