I have a 2011 nytro and a friend has a 2009 nytro. Its pretty obvious his warmers suck, but mine don't seem much better.
I have done a search here and HCS.
options:
1. lt seems like the RSI grips are kind of Hit and miss,
2. spray foam, doesn't see like it will make that big of a difference.
3. Everyone seems to like Yamaheaters but it seems a little ridiculous to spend $200 on something that should've worked from the factory.
4. A new thing that i just heard of is the ECU reprogramming, how many have done this? whats the Success rate?
5. Biggest question of all>> Has anyone been able to re wire the factory grips to trick the computer to make them stay on longer?
thanks for your time. Happy Thanksgiving!

All I can say is once I did the Yamaha heaters I have not looked back. It was plug and ride. No headache.

Spend the money on the Yamaheater. Problem solved. Move to next problem. Best advice I can give.

I felt the same I had already spend a lot on the sled and did not want to spend $200 on yamaheaters. But I combined a few of the things you mentioned. Put RSI heaters in (needed new right side anyways), spray foamed the bars and added extensions to the hand guards. My hands are much warmer now. Probably not as good as the yamaheaters but much better and didn't spend anywhere near as much.

It is pretty irritating.
Has anyone done the ecu reflash? It's half the price and don't have to add anymore wires.

like you said it seems silly 200 for yamaheaters, but they are one mod that you will be happy you spent the money on let me tell you

Yamaheater, Yamaheater, Yamaheater!!!! I too questioned the same as you did but once you actually weigh the risk vs reward factors it's Yamaheater all the way! You will have over $100 bucks in the RSI elements as you need new grips and hooks also, plus the headache of the install of these items. Then weigh in the factor of: 1, If you wire them like the instructions say the heat is barely any better, 2, if you wire them to get the most heat you run a significant chance of burning the elements up or worse yet, MELTING the windings on the stator. I personally found that spending the extra $80, a hour less time on the install, and the risk vs reward factors was a small price to pay for warm hands and a piece of mind. Rock is a great guy with the best customer service I have ever had and they just simply work awesome. Not to mention cold hands totally ruin the enjoyment of the ride! Just my .02!

Yamaheaters all the way! I ride in Manitoba , lots of -20 to -30C , and I always have to run them at about 3/4's to keep my hands from getting to hot … on a -10C day I have to turn them down … Nothing wrecks a ride like cold hands….spend the money , you won't be disappointed.

This winter we have had lots of -30C. Even -40C. I got tired of cold hands and bought the yamaheaters. What a difference. I should of done it two years ago.

I have a 2011 nytro with stock hand warmers. I put on cold guard grip protectors and I now have to turn the warmers down. They really help protect against the elements. Best thing is they fit right in front of the stock hand guards. Check out coldguards.com. They are super cheap. Much cheaper then yamaheaters.
