Just wondering if there is a quick fix for this.. Both handwarmers and thumb warmer were getting hot and the next days ride noticed the right hand warmer stopped working, but left hand warmer and thumbwarmer still get hot.. No codes.. Is there a plug I can look for or just bring it to dealer?
Thanks

Mine has done the same exact thing, have not had time to dig into it. Anyone want to save us some time?

Yesterday, mine threw a code 81. After a restart, it went away. Just before that, my reverse wouldn't kick in. Pushed the button and nothing happened. Did notice that my fan was running because it was idling for a long time. Then, later on, the code came back and the warmers were dead. I'll have to check my wiring, which I modified with Yamaha's rewiring kit to change the warmers from series to parallel. They usually work really well. Too well in fact that I have to keep turning them off they get so hot. I might reconnect them as they were before.

mooseman, i hear you about the rewire kit. i can barely keep it on 2 bars it gets so hot. i usually ride with 1 bar, otherwise any higher settings, i can smell my gloves burning.

as for the problem above, take the right side panels off & up behind the headlight, there will be a group of wires in a rubber type cone sleeve that slides on the wires. move back to view wires & it will be a yellow/red & black connector or black/red & black connector. (not sure if they changed colors over the years)
one is on the pass. side & one is on the drivers, so only one connector will be on one side.

It's part number 90891-50150. It basically rewires the warmers from series to parallel. Some will say that this may draw too much power and burn out the stator but the ECU is smart enough to cut the power to non-essential accessories when the fan kicks in and while idling. Phazers also have an extra bit of power to play with because the same engine/stator is used on Venture Lites, which have passenger hand warmers.

Before using this kit, you should grab the manual for your sled and check if it's not already in parallel in the wiring diagram. Yamaha may have changed the wiring over the years.

Just looking in the service manual and everything is wired back to the ECU but I did notice the warmers are in series. My warmers only seem to work between 7000 and 9000 RPMs but can't actually find the operation sequence in the manual.

The ECU is programmed to cut down power to the warmers while idling but probably you think you're getting heat at 7000-9000 rpm when in fact, it's just taking a bit of time for the heat to accumulate. Rewiring the grips to parallel should improve your heat output.

To dmelectrician, yours are likely already wired in parallel. Since one of them is still working, the ECU doesn't see an open circuit and thus, won't throw a code. Unplug the dead warmer and check for an open circuit in the warmer. Could be defective.

I was looking for that part number at portyamaha and it doesn't appear to go in as a valid part number. Is it listed under any of the particular snowmobile models? Thanks in advance.

That's the number I used last year to order it and my dealer had no trouble ordering it. It was about $10. It's part of a kit that was included with updated handlebars for some 2006 models.
