In the past I have removed most of my idler wheels from the rear skid and run hiperfax with great success. It seems my RX-1 accessory account has plumeted because of too many goodies. I was planning on buying a set of hiperfax this season too but now I am planning on trying the Yamaha High performance hifax shown at the bottom of the attached link instead. It sounds like they are a blend of graphite and plastic. I'm sure they aren't as good as the hiperfax but do you think they will get me by this winter? The are priced at $15.95 each. Hiperfax are $155 a pair. Has anyone tried these? PB

I tried a graphite slide last year but not from Yamaha, they held up great! I put over a 1000 miles on them and they still had plenty of life.

Are you guy's using these for performance or longevity or both??? I put 1200 miles on my original slides last year and I still have 50% life left. Huge improvement over my SRX that would eat sliders every 300 or 400 miles..... I'm in heaven with the RX1 :p . Though I did purchase one of those Hy-Fax remover tools at Snodeo (actually looks like a modified dent puller) so I'm anxious to give it a try.

Good topic Powder Blue. I had this high performance hyfax installed on my RX-1 for this season, but haven't tried it out yet. We get some miles in over the holidays and report back. The dealer said they normally last twice as long as regular hyfax.

I used a graphite impregnated hifax years ago (87 Exciter) and wasn't too impressed but I have high hopes for the present day version. It may have been the slide design on the Exciter that was to blame? I guess I'll find out. PB

I've used the graphites off & on over the years , mostly on a 97 SX700. They did seem to last about 25-50% longer. Went 1,500 mi. on the factory hyfax last year with 25% still left (RX-1, of course)If I get a season out of 'em I'm happy- then go burn the rest off on the grass !!

I use only the hiperformance sliders from Yamaha. I used the stock slides only to have them worn out in less than 300 miles. I run in a lot of "snert" not snow, not dirt. Some times the conditions can be bad, but I can normaly get at least 1000 miles on the better slides. I just can't justify the $150.00 for super slides that some after market companys have.

I bought a set ($200 Cdn) for my old sled, 97 ZRT800 (for sale by the way), they lasted about 1/4 as long as the stock ones!!! Major marketing ripoff!! Just my experienced opinion.

just installed the regular type on my rx. I asked the dealer about the graphite and they said , don't waste your money, you will not see enough improvement that is worth the money.

PowderBlue:

Just got back from a ride in northern Wisconsin between Christmas and New Years Day. Trails conditions were fair to poor with lots of bare spots. We saw lots of people melting their hyfax. Both of our sleds with the high performance hyfax installed were just fine after 600+ miles.

Thanks. That's good to hear! I have ran mine several times now too and they seem to work fine but with the amount of snow we have I think anything would work just fine. Hey, as a $30 alternative to the $159 Hiperfax I may be a convert. Time will tell. PB
