I talked to a tech rep at royal purple today. he said the motorcycle oil i nly eeded for sleds with a wet starter cluch. he said the 5w30 automobile oil would be the perfect oil for a Yamaha sowmobile. He also stated the reason he knew this off of the top of his head was they have had a ton of calson it lately. Makes me feel better. Maxdlx

Does anyone know which models have a wet starter?? I don't think my 08 Phazer does....but I thought I read that an Apex does??
I think I'll be trying the 5w-40 after my break in time.....

What is that supposed to mean. Royal purple has passed every test they have been put through with some of the best #'s out there. I haven't seen any #'s actually that are better for all around performance. In the past week and a half, I have spent close to 20 hours just doing research on oil (slow at work). I can get the 0w40 snow amsoil for 5.95 at the local farm supply store. Does that mean it is a lesser quality oil than mobil 1 that is 6.50 a qt at the same store. Maxdlx

Here is a amsoil test. they claim there oil outperformed Royal Purple hands down. to me the RP #'s look better, and it is a 0w-30 compared to a 20w-50. thats a good fair comparison. You'd think the heavier oil would fair better. Maxdlx

Upon the colder weather hitting in my area I switched the oil in my truck back to Amsoil 15W40. Reason being the Royal Purple is not as good at cold starting it was a 15W40 as well. -12c with the Royal Purple in my diesel would start and labour to stay running three times it died and had to be restarted, the truck never did this with the Amsoil in. Went to the Smartlube where I had the Royal Purple put in and told them about it. They said it was a problem with my truck and cold starting, I told them it was the oil. I wanted the oil swithched back to Amsoil for the starting reason they said ok but it was not the oil that is causing it to die. -12c this morning as well with the Amsoil in the truck guess what the truck started and stayed running just like it always did prior to putting in the Royal Purple. This stuff is supposed to be synthetic but it acts like dino oil in cold starting so I would suggest not to run this oil in your sled for cold starting reasons alone. Never seen any real mileage gains but I thought the truck ran smoother probably because it stays thicker which is why it was causing cold starting problems with the truck. Back to Amsoil and will stay with it.

what's viscosity royal purple???
They are both rated at 15W40 the Amsoil cranks way easier at -12c the royal purple actually made the same truck and a diesel at that stall after initially starting from a cold start. The owner at Smartlube is going to be giving the Royal Purple rep a call and ask what the heck is with that.

420ATTAK said:well it depends how greedy they are and how hard it is for them to get, i am talking canadian priceing, and not much hassel to get, we orde it in through an aftermarket supplier called keystone usuall a day or two to get for us at least but we are an assosiate store (independantly owned) but if they dont deal with keystone they prolly cant get it
Royal Purple is a company brand name , They have many quailtys and weights of oil , all are priced differently,
Their regular synthetic is $ 7.99 / ltr , race grades are $12.99/$16.99 ltr
