I wish I could post pics, but I am a computer fool, co I will try to explain. while repacking my secondary bearing, obviously on the clucth side I noticed a hariline crack in the casing if you will that the bearing is in. It is like a donut or a collar and it sticks out of the frame a bit and is round. I am not sure if this is part of the bearing or not. I have never replaced the bearing as there is no play in it, but this crack is making me wonder..I dont think I have every heard of this topic here. Any help or suggestions?

Sounds like you're talking about the circlip that holds the bearing in... If you can't describe it better, then you should try to find a kid on the street who can help you post pictures.

thanks LB... it is not the circlip. I went on the fiche and I couldnt even find the bearing... the circlip does clip into this piece though. It is like a collar is the best I can describe. I guess I will have to figure out the pics.
I know the piece you're talking about, it is not part of the bearing. Its part of the bulkhead, not something that you're gonna want to replace. Depending on the size and location of the crack, I'd just run it and keep an eye on it.
If your looking at a microfiche look in the FRAME section.

It's probably nothing, as mine had this same thing (7000 miles), but without pics, it's hard to say.

thanks for the link bdm.. that is exactly what I am speaking of. I think my crack has gotten worse though.. last year I could barely feel the lip of it with my finger. now I can feel the crack... should I seek a welder and have a bead dropped in there???? I have just over 9,000 miles on the sled.

I know the peice and mine is not cracked but even with a crack i wouldn't worry about. If you have a alumn welder handy and want o put a spot weld on it it wouldn't hurt a thing either.
If I'm not mistaken I think this is a farily common thing. Happens mostly on replacement from freezing the bearing and heating that part to get a new bearing to slip in, once the temps equalize that bearing puts a lot of pressure on that part of the frame.

I know a guy that welds aluminum, but says cast aluminum is different and is afraid of it. What is the deal?

You just need cast wire/Rod. Regular welding wire/rod will not work.
