There's more than one?

The one in the removable shaft housing itself that we loctite after they move, and then there's one thats in the engine that that shaft itself slides into.

I see. Number 18 in attached picture. I just assumed that since it's bathed in engine oil it will last much longer.

I replaced the complete stub shaft on my nytro this year which has over 20,000 miles on it. Stub shaft came with two bearings. I did not replace the inner bearing.
Sled is much smoother with new shaft and outer bearing.
I will do this on my sidewinder in the off season.

About five years ago we were out for the last ride of the season, one of my buds was riding his 08 Nytro with about that many miles. His engine came to a stop and wouldn't turn over. He says "am I the first guy to blow up a four stroke Yamaha?"
Well, not exactly. The stub bearing had failed and seized.
