OK I pulled my cover on the chain case and found the lower bolt for the big gears is sheared off. I remember seeing something that you can run with out it in. yes or no for the bolt.

yeah its a common thing on older nytros, or ones without the updated bolt (stronger) any parts fiche will superceed to the newer bolt at your dealer. kinda a pain getting that bolt out of axle, but can be done, I have done many . I have found just drilling a small hole in center of snapped off bolt works good, usually heats up old loctite on threads while drilling also. then either use a extractor or something similar to get in there and remove

They have an updated bolt for it or get a harden one... Some do run with out it but it seems like the lower gear would be spining on the cover and wear on it. Because the cover would hold the spring and retainer in place and its moving with the shaft .... Like I said some are running with out but it's in there for a reason .... You are this far what's one more day to get a bolt

Oh things have gone to hell, putting the cover back on and I he lower cover bolt snap off before I was even close to TQ. And now I cant get a drill to hit it center. Going to see if I can drill it from the back side.

5000 miles without a bolt in mine also, no signs of wear on the gear or case cover.

Had the same problem. I strongly believe that this bolt is mainly to help with assembly from the factory in order to hold everything on the shaft. I replaced mine but dont think its necessary. I chucked mine up in a lathe and put a live center on it to true it up then put a left hand drill on it and she came right out. If you cant get it, call around to a machine shop and see if they can do it, maybe like $10 or so. I replaced mine for piece of mind.

When i went to swap my 1 3/8" track out for a 2" mountian track i found the same thing, time was short and the dealer didn't have the bolt anyway so i put it together without, which is a real pain to put it back together without, looks like it might be little easier to work on the sled with it in place or am i wrong? I am planning on taking it back before my extended warrenty runs out it and get it replaced soon.
