Help with reverse.....

Okay today really got my goat going when I started my '15 srviper stxdx to move and go through it and do an oil change and it will not reverse!! ******g piece of s**t! Okay I CANNOT be the only person within North America that has a sled that the reverse doesn't work. It's had issues in the cold of winter and spring and windy days etc.,so here I am today and nothing is working for reverse, so my dealer says they have had issues with several sleds and YAMAHA is not or will not help out the customer. So have any of you guys' out there found the solution to the reverse not working ?
 
Well no it's not the actuator at all, okay it doesn't even get power to it! Okay looked in my service book and it tells me how to test the reverse switch actuator all that crap but there are no wires at all on my sled as described . So lets start with the relays-2- one is for forward the other is for reverse, each has power to them and they do actually click when powered up. Now lets go to the handlebar reverse switch which I took apart and there are 2 small wires there, the switch is working as I tested continuity but there is no power in any of those 2 little wires! Shouldn't one at least have power and when the switch is pushed it'll carry power to the reverse relay sending power to the actuator then there should be power at the actuator plug right? Everyone says it's the actuator but how can it be when there isn't any power at it's plug? Someone has had to have this happened to the sled?
 
I have 12000 miles on mine and not a problem yet. But I always put white grease on o rings when I have the shift knob out.
 
What's a shift knob Allan? Never seen anything like that on my sled, maybe my '99!

Maybe its not the correct name . What I was taking about was the extension the actuator fits into. i grease the 2 o rings.

Sorry but there's a lot of moving parts on a sled so I just was looking for the right item. Also got nothing to with the o-rings there is no power at the switch to activate the servo.
 
You checked the relays, but have you checked the fuse? It's a 25A fuse labeled as "SHIFT".

Did you check the fuse as posted
Some times the actuator motor goes or gear strips inside , i think the grease could help this. but no power sounds like a fuse or that's where I would start.

If it's not the fuse. This may help. As you stated when sled is powered up the relay clicks. When that relay clicks there should be power at the actuator. Since you checked and there isn't that also pretty much eliminates the switch as being a issue since this action occurs every time the key is turned on from the off position. Allows it to find home which is forward. The sled will always shift to forward even if turned off while in reverse.
 
So cannondale, my service book is very iffy. Okay I'll tell you what I tried, firstly I used a test light on most of a all the contacts to visually see if there was power on both sides of the fuse, good. Then went up to the handlebar switch pulled it apart and tried the contacts with the light and a volt meter, either wire had no power. Tried the continuity on the switch with the meter seemed to work. Went down to the actuator and pulled the plug apart and tried to see if there was power here when the switch was pushed, didn't get any on the wires. I was at a loss till today I found a wiring schematic on ty forums and am going to go through everything again, I might have missed something and as you just said is it the forward relay that always keeps the actuator powered in forward? So if I test for power will it be at the actuator plug? Also when I press the switch for reverse there should be power on which pin? Thank you.
 
Also take in to account the positioning sensor stops the power when it's in the desired position or the motor would just keep trying spin and burn up. I bet it's you actuator motor that failed. Mine dropped a magnet and locked up.
 
Actually now that I think about it, first my motor seized from sitting then I fixed it and after a couple weeks the magnet dropped probably from tapping the motor when it was seized. Very little glue on the one magnet.
 
I don't think you'll fine power at the switch. I believe that the switch makes and breaks the ground circuit to the relays.
