Let mt sled out to a friend, One shock is now not centered in upper a arm? how can you tell if it is the sub frame

check the lower ball joint in the a-arm,that was the problem when my shock was not centered.the bushings in the front are also crap and cause a big slope after a short period of riding,im sure your subframe is fine. Max

When the sled is new, is the shocks centered in upper a arm ? The shocks on the pic. on the yamaha-motor.com page is not centered. ?
How can you tell then if the sub frame is broken ?

Its the bottom shock mount that is not in the middle of the upper a arm( when you are looking down from the top of the sled.) Lower arm does not look bent

Subframe bent...

Put the sled in front of a garage door or something that is straight. Stand up on the sled and watch the skis... In most cases, if the subframe is bent, the ski on the side that has been hit will be back up. When i've bent mine, just standing up on the sled looking at the skis it was very easy to see that the right one has back up. Also, take a look at the rubber boot where the steering rod passes through to the lower arm. There are platics rivets that holds that boot in place. But there is one steel rivet(black).
This one is riveted into the subframe. That is where they bent. So if you drill off that rivet, you'll see that the hole is not ok, because the subframes tweak in at this place...

Hope that will help;)

Re: Subframe bent...

That is exactly where mine was bent, right by that aluminum rivet. I hit some angle iron under about 3 feet of snow, snapped my steering knuckle, bent both a arms, ripped off my skid plate and bent my sub frame. Im taking my subframe off today to see if i can fix and reinforce, if not 800 bucks more for a new one. Not the sleds fault i hit hard, about 40kmh threw me off my sled, bad day LOL.... Oh well nothing 2000 grand canadian cant fix. I will start a thread showing it all.
