I am new to the site and am digging for some info on 4 strokes. I just sold my Rev Skidoo this week and now I am in the market for a new sled. Right now it looks as though I am going to buy a new 2006 Attak. I have never driven a Yamaha but I am ready to try something new, I have heard a lot of good news about these new four strokes and that is what is making me lean towards Yamaha. I guess my question is this, is the weight issue as bad as people say it is or is that just a myth, and is the new fuel injected engines compatible with the other big bores on the market or am I going to fall behind------ Any info will help, I just want to know if I am going to be satisfied with this sled or not.

Weight is right in there with a Mack Z and a Fusion.
In fact with full fuel tanks Apex is supposed to be 10 lbs lighter than one of the 2 above, forget which one tho.

Unless your going to pick the sled up and put it on your back I have never had an issue with the weight; 03 RX1

Well i have the attak and have put miles on the proto from last april on the attak,the weight will be 25# more than the apex but you wont notice it while driving it,only pulling it around in your garage and it comes standard w/reverse so unless you get it stuck in 3 feet of snow it wont be a problem and they all feel heavy when stuck in 3 feet anyway. Now the attak outhandled the apex er we had for comparsions on the same trails and same snow conditions and ran same speed so i picked the attak over my first dicision to get the apex gt,so i dont think you would be disapointed at all with any of the new apex/attak sleds i say go for it,and i bet the stories you heard of them being like a tank weight and handling wise came from people who owne some other brand,right and said they gave it a try,heck if you dont spend the day driving a certain brand sled there is no way you can get a real good feel for it,good luck.

The weight is the same as the bigger 2 strokes. what your going to gain is reliability, ride, handling, no more stink and no more $30 oil to buy and throw in better gas mileage too.

Yamaha does a super job of masking the weight. In one of the reviews The test rider said it felt as light as the crossfire. The weight thing is no longer an issue, only with the guys who are intimidated by the superior quality of the yamaha. These new sled are going to have the others sctatching to catch up.

They are much better than the RX models. If you are unsure, try all of them in mid December. Yamaha brings them to Michigan and you can ride them and see if its for you or not.

I had a chance to ride an Apex and Attak at a demo ride last year and the Engine is the single greatest SMB engine I have ever ridden a major improvement over the RX-1 which was great. I also have time on Mach Z, Fusion, and Cat 900s for throttle response pull and fun the Apex is the best.
I cannot see regretting an Apex or Attak purchase vs. any sled on the market. Good Luck!

I'm glad I decided to go with the Attak. Amsnow buyers guide just arrived. I know how they rode from my test rides. I've ridden enough sleds to know that it was an awesome ride and the yamahas have changed drastically this year but it's GREAT to hear that backed up by the press. Other notable quotes.
"Although the heaviest of the four crossovers, the Attak rides nearly as light as the Crossfire" (which is the lightest of the crossover sleds)
"I also discovered that ergonomically the Yamaha was better suited for rough trails than Renegade"
"Suprisingly, Attak felt lighter in the front than Renegade when banging over the rough Utah test trails. I wasn't expecting that."
"I've never driven any snowmobile that responds as fluidly as the Apex/Attack line. The fuel injected soul of the new 20-valve 4-stroke is smooth and crisp as a winter morning."

costs have to be higher the more you use of it. In other words you get
more for your money the heavier the sled weighs. I think manufactures like Arctic Cat that make those flexy flyiers ie. F7 start all the talk about
weight because they are making a killing on the people that think light weight is the most important thing to consider when buying a new sled.

I switched from CAT to yamaha back in 2002 and i have no disapointments..
I had a zr700 which left me stranded several times.. and went to a Viper, and then a 04 warrior and after i crashed that i bought anothe warrior and then ordered a 06 apex GT..
There isnt a better sled out there.. and ive ridden them all!

Sparky, if you want a 4 stroke then there is no other choice that comes close to the Yamaha's. Having said that it seems Yamaha has it's issues, as do any of the other brands, but don't let weight or FI scare you away. IMO Yamaha goes a little overboard in their attempt to lighten up there sleds and forgoes longevity(in some cases) to save a few lb's...bad for you and me good for dealers and parts sales. Weight is definitely a factor but a half full gas tank will save you 35lb's and if you're a big boy like me(250lb's) does the weight of the sled really matter, barring your not stuck, not in my book :ORC . I came over from AC last year and have had my share of issues with my Rage but the fun factor of these sleds so far out weighs the issues. It's truly a matter of perspective, what’s important/issue to me may not be to you and believe me this site is full of perspectives but that's why .

For an honest opinion, I would read the post in the link below. Simich rode a 2003 RX-1, then switched to a Rev 800 HO, and is now back on Yamaha this season. His view is not brand biased and is probably one of the best inputs any of us can provide you.
