How many miles on your Sidewinder?

I cant believe all the maintenance and things breaking. I had a 94 xlt that I rebuilt the motor at 11k and rode it another 2k after that. Barley anything beside shocks. All my other sleds never had any issues but way less miles

Hard to compare the old sleds. I have found with 220+hp everything is harder, brakes, hits, more speed equals more impact forces. 120hp isn't really going to break anything and you can't get up to speed in the blink of a eye so your hitting bumps and stuff at 20-30mph more then on the XLT. If you took a winder and drove it the exact same speed as a xlt i bet it would go 30-40,000 miles.

IMO these sleds require more attention because of a few reasons, 1) being the power un-imaginable as of 15 years ago. 2) a lot of the parts, be it... bushings, shafts, ect. are much smaller for weight savings benefits. not to mention the materials now being used to save weight. 3) I ran out of ideas here haha

I do understand where you're coming from as I have a 2002 viper with 10k on it that just recently got rings on the pistons! other than a shot of grease here and there and a new belt at the beginning of the season its has and go! Never skips a beat.

Even leaving the winder completely stock, its much easier on all components of the sled, and even that is still around 200 hp,a far cry from any high end, high hp sled of the 80s,90s,or even up to 2011 and wasent till the 2012 big twin cat 4 stroke, hit the market things started to change, from the factory you had there 1000 triple at 170 hp, you had a contender for very good speed, with fewer problems, but than again you still did not have the stand up type chassie we now have, with so much crazy power. But when the trails back than got junked out,we slowed down a lot w/the old iron,to save our bodies, today we ride so much faster through so much junk, that we seem to forget how much stress the chassie is taking, because we may not feel so bad ourselfs, but our sled feels the same trash our bodies once used to on old iron.

8000 Miles on mine. Its always got me home, all at 270+hp

Just put a newish primary clutch on. The spider slider bushings are real sloppy on the original.

558 miles, 2nd engine, still overheating....
Does your sled overheat trail riding? My new 2020 does have to drag my feet most of the day. Conditions are good too lots of snow was -5 yesterday cant believe it wont run cool. Frustrating

What temps are you seeing under water temp,if its 175 or less you are fine,if it is much higher say 185-200 you need snow scratchers.

17 XTX SE 141 So far 5100 miles and 150 Hrs. Bone stock except for some clutching, still on my second belt, and about due for for my first hyfax replacment. Only problem, 1-torn off some outside paddles on the track, and 2-the idler wheels in front real axle I've had to replace twice now.( no studs)

My 2018 XTX 141 has a few outer lugs torn off and will probably get replaced this summer. Thinking 2.5 or 2.6 this go round.

I do more trail riding than off trail, a 2.5 would be too much lug height for me, I would love a 1.75 with the molded in studs i think it's called an ice attack but they dont make it in a 141 length. :o|

lol where you riding... Utah/Wyoming/Togwotee?

Unless you’re always off trail, that is way to much lug for trail riding most of the time imo.

2017 LTX SE 4100 miles of TD magic... New primary and driveshaft.... Same hi fax.

What is 'hot'? Will it actually go into limp mode? When mine does it, the rear cooler is cold. Shut if off and start it back up the T stat opens and the rear cooler gets warm and the engine cools down instantly. When the T stat seems to stay open the sled runs around 165-170 on hard pack trail without my scratchers down. Mine has a problem with how its circulating. If yours is new and been doing it since new you may need to bleed it and add more coolant. They seem to be very hard to get bled and air free in the coolant system. Mine could be as easy as a new T stat or needs a new (3 rd) water pump which I doubt. Good luck!
