I was thinking the same as you this summer but decided for the small amount more to go with the 300 kit. Super happy I did. Now I can set my sled at 9lbs for trail and turn all the way up to 15lbs (280) on pump. The sled pulls like a freight train even at 9 lbs! I haven't pushed it much past 12lbs yet but will get some Q16 soon and be able to turn up to 18 lbs and see what she can do.Thinking of upgrading to the 240 hp hurricane kit just looking for pros and cons of this from people who have done this.thanks

What is your fuel mileage like?
I have the 240 kit, if I drive it hard I get about 9 mpg.@ 11 psi boost.
I will probably order the 300 upgrade this summer.
Tempted to add the 240 turbo kit myself. Not sure if I want to keep the Viper or move on to a SW though.

I am going to 240. i had the overheat issue and after taking the engine down it was the head gasket. My fault. tried pushing more boost even with the evo flash going to 7.5 - 8 lbs is too much for factory head bolts and no shim. When i took it apart all three cylinders were leaking. I had a piston that was ready to crumble and head and cylinder need to be machined down to get rid of the pitting. So anyways i found a 300 km engine and put the head shim and with Hurricane instructions on cams timing and fuel regulator will try the 240 kit. Started it up and it's a different beast. It runs different. Starts like it wants to go. No hesitation. Just got the PV5 map for the 240 kit and will try later today or tomorrow. THEN I have to go to Mexico with the wife. Back on the 16th. Hope we still have riding conditions.. We normally go till middle of March sometimes even longer here.
Will keep you posted. Will have to play with clutching.

Since I have gone to the 240 kit, I have noticed it cold starts better than Brand new! I would assume this is from adjusting the cam timing.
Fuel mileage from the 190 kit is better than the 240. I can make the trade for better cold starts ,and loose a bit of fuel mileage. Just my take.
Depending what type of riding you plan to do with your unit, You may want to go with Taller gears. I am running a LTX with a 1.75x137 Track
I went to a 1.54 Ratio gear set.
Overall I have had no trouble with the kit, it works Dam Good!
If You need help, Dave is a call or email away!

Sorry about the delay. I don't trail ride at anymore than 9 lbs but at that, I use less fuel than stock apexs when riding normal or hard. I have yet to hand calculate my mileage. What is your fuel mileage like?

TD my advice after spending a pile on the viper to get the hp i wanted i would recommend biting the bullet sell the viper and get the sidewinder it already has around 200hp and much cheaper and easier to get into the 25o-260hp mark muffler, flash, cold air, and clutch kit and you re sitting on a rocket that don't have all the silly quirks of the viper like the bad starting and the sidewinder panels are so much better looks like higher build quality. just my thoughts but knowing what i know now i would have dumped the viper before the turbo and hopped on a sidwinder xtx le 2.25 track red and white i love the look of that color combo.Tempted to add the 240 turbo kit myself. Not sure if I want to keep the Viper or move on to a SW though.
Thanks for the feedback Jeff!
If I can get the RR pkg with the beefed skid/shocks and reinforced running boards in the SW (and Yamaha does not screw us again) would be much easier decision. Watching, waiting...
I don't need 110mph+ as I am too afraid I'd kill myself I'd just like to scream to 105-110 versus falling flat at 65-70 like it does now.

Your not gonna get anything over 250hp with the stock sidewinder turbo and pump gas, the turbo is just 2 small. If you go with a ball bearing 2871 Garrett kit your options open up a lot and the spool is dam near the same as the stock sidewinder turbo. With 270hp pump gas and the option of 350hp with race fuel. All depends on your goals.
