I am about to buy a doo...

I am one to say I have had pretty much every 4 stroke Yamaha (or rode it) and can truly say, you have to adapt to whatever sled you do buy....can't be more specific than that.

Was just in Colorado with 9 Vipers, an SRX with tall suspension in front and a 144 2 inch track and a Mountain Cat 144. The SRX got stuck, a couple Vipers got stuck from inexperience.....but there was no stopping me on my Viper 4 stroke. One of the members here had a stock Viper 137 LTX, buried a couple times. I took the same sled in the snow (Now we are talking 7-10 feet of fresh powder) and ran rings around everyone. I am not bragging here, just stating facts that a 4 stroke Yamaha can do anything other sleds can do. We pulled out lots of new skid-doos, Polaris and Cats that were buried. And yes, they are a biotch to get out when stuck also! A group of new Cats that stayed in the cabin just down from us wouldn't even go where we were going.

One thing here is.... the guys on this site won't push you to buy a Yami 4 stroke.....some here are brand biased, most are not. They will still try to give you the best opinion for you to make a decision. I couldn't be happier with my 4 strokes. If you do happen to buy a Yamaha 4 stroke, you have the best site in the world here for information

Wait until February to see what Yamaha and BRP has comming out. Yamaha has a new all Yam model coming out this year or the next. BRP has a new engine coming out soon. Nothing confimred of course all rumors but its just another month so why not wait. You might be kicking yourself since your buying new. The deal you have will still be available then.

If you do end up with a 2 cycle BRP model do not think you'll want to keep it past the 4 year warranty. I would only trust Yamaha if you want to keep it 5-10 years. If this is your priority then wait and tuff it out with your tank which is costing you nothing.
I have been discussing this with my riding group and we may end up renting a viper on the way UP ( Indian river.. anywhere else rent them?) and rent a 900 ACE. I can ride both of those for some additional data points. Then when Yamaha doesn't come out with a new "Yamaha" in a month and ski-doo comes out with new iron I can make a decision. I would imagine to your point the deal should still be there.

If you do rent the Renegade, I would like to hear your review on it.

Any type of mountain riding that you can do on a 4 stroke will be done much easier on an Axys or a T3. Not bashing the 4 strokes, I put many thousands of miles in the mountains on one. The best thing I found making the switch back to a 2 stroke is I am not dead tired at the end of the day.

Apex XTX is my choice but you never really said what you want in a sled. 1200 Doo is a bit lighter but still heavy on the front end and down on power. 800 Doo has the pwer and is lighter if your going to put 1,200 miles a year and plan on 5 to 10 years then keeping a 800 doo is very doable.

I have to say though I have helped 800 Renagade Doos out when they are stuck so I think its up to the rider. I got my 144 stuck because I rode into deep snow at to slow a speed trying to see a path to take past another sled in a snowstorm and when I realized my mistake and put some power on I dug a hole. The XTX 144 Apex floats quite well in the deep and with a 1.75 it would play in some deep stuff. For trail riding it is a bit more of a handfull but can be made to turn quite well. Steiner has his turning like a slot car.

The Cat chassis handles quite well so a Viper or Cat 7,000 if you are satisfied with less hp will work or if you want to be top dog buy a Sidewinder or T-Cat whichever you can get the best deal on. Cats Dirty 800 is reported to be faster then the Doo 800 and the 850 should haul the mail quite well!
