I started to cut a piece of stainless to lay over the hole in the tunnel, just to see what it looked like. I ended up cutting some holes in it and mounting it over the hole in my tunnel. I really didn't plan on it. I figure it will block some of the snow/water that comes up through the tunnel an cool the exhaust some. Here some pics. She's a little dirty.

I also put on some snow stuff handlebar hooks, Powermadd hand guards, removed the plastic box from the "trunk", mounted my spare belt/tool pack behind the front bumper, and lastly I put on an OEM FX windshield. I did have my stock gauge bracket flipped upside down to lower the gauge, but it didn't work with the FX windshield bracket. So I put it back in stock position.

Just thought I'd share ;)!

Looks good but I think the hole you have cut in the plate will be completely glogged by ice/snow after some driving. But then you will see for yourself that nothing gets hot and melts down :-o Think you will end up with a fully closed tunnel

looks good, glad to see the mount worked for you.

Thanks for the good deal ;)!

Once we actually get some snow, I'll be able to test the tunnel cover. I'm not too concerned with anything melting. I Just don't want to lose power from my exhaust being too hot. I really would like to close it completely, though.

Why should you lose power from your exhaust being to hot?

I wonder what would be to hot for an exhaustpipe to be...

I and 2 other with phazers have tested this out and non of us have noticed any drop in engine performance.

Would be nice if any "engine guys" could explain why this engine would lose power because of a to hot exhaust pipe.

I'm not exactly sure why, its just the talk that I've heard. I would think it would have something to do with with the flow. But like I said, I really don't know. But having to cool the exhaust really doesn't make sense.

The only reason they cool the exhaust is because it runs right under the fuel tank and seat. I'm having trouble with my turbo breathing in steam so I am going to wrap the exhaust in header tape and close off the tunnel completely. If the header tape works good I might even ditch the heat shields. This summer I am going to send the exhaust out to get ceramic coated. Keeping the exhaust gases hot improves power since the gases move faster through the pipe creating a scavenging effect where the exhaust pulse from one cyinder helps draw it out of the other.

Hey phazerboost. Does MCX give you tunnel covers in the kit? Even with the holes covered Yami's panels would look sweet concealing the turbo, eh? So the intake is at the turbo now...

I was talking to my Yamaha dealer today and he has consulted Yamaha in Sweden, it´s NOT allowed to close the tunnel !, Yamaha is not supporting a total closing of the tunnel, the hole is there for cooling the exhaust and closing may harm the snowmobile, so my friends IF you have closed and there is a problem, Remove

And in that way there is even more reason for Yamaha to get out with a fix for this ice problem realy soon!.

I was thinking about taking the panel I made out and getting the OEM side skirts anyway. I think thats what I'm gonna do.
