Yea, and I had complained about it when my sled had like 600 miles onit. And again last year, while still under warranty, with around 2500 miles on it. Both times I was told it was normal. Low oil light came on at around 500-600 miles!!! THATS normal? And last year it was 1 qt. in 250-300 miles. Now that I found possible proof of why its happening (metal in the oil from long term grinding of that bracket), and its looking like they won't do anything. Before I found the broken bracket, about a month ago I called Yamaha customer service (again...I had to several times last year for warranty work), and they claimed they had no record of my complaints. Then when I talked to the dealer a few days ago, and began telling him of my previous complaints, he said he knows, its ALL IN MY SERVICE HISTORY that he got from Yamaha! So does it sound like Yamaha is trying to hiding something?

Well for something like this it really isn't worth it. I could buy a used motor off ebay for $1500, or I could pay an attorney $1500 up front to fight Yamaha...with no guarantee of winning. And if I do win, the money I get would be just about enough to pay the lawyer, and that leaves me nowhere. I'll probably call around to see what they say, but I don't think it would be worth it.

Jim

Not realy you can try for more for all the wasted time they have cost you!!! I think it is SO wrong! They need to pay you!!!!!!!!

NHXRider......I really think you should talk to an attorney. You'd be surprised who may take it on a contingency basis.

I have an 03 RX-1 with 5000 Quebec Trail miles. Other than scheduled oil changes, I have never added even a drop of oil. What QCRider and others are saying is true, the things need to be hot before you check the oil. It makes a HUGE difference. Last week we left the motel with mine barely reading on the float and checked it when we got back and it was dead nuts perfect. I question whether some of you guys that think you're burning oil actually are. Just a thought.

Well if I leave home with it reading the Low side on the dipstick, the Low Oil light will come on after less than 50 miles. I always check my oil with it hot, and it always uses it. It keeps going lower and lower no matter what the oil level starts out at.

Good thing they sell oil by the case! ;)!

I had my oil light come on last weekend. I added a little and continued riding. Came on the next day and I added a little more. After discussing this with the dealer, I was told 1qt in 1000 miles is normal. Espically with a lot of high rpm running (10.5-11k). This is after about 1500 miles for the season and 3200 on the sled. I never had the light come on before, but that has a lot to do with riding style. I am also now clutched and running higher rps that previously. As was suggested in earlier post, I feel going back to stock would help with oil usage. Willl I do this though, no. I am very happy with the way the sled performs and 1qt in my last 1500 miles is fine with me. My next step is running ring-free (sea-foam) this weekend and then changing the oil.

Wow. I've only got 1080 miles on my Vector, and haven't used a measurable amount of oil yet.

Today I managed to talk (in person) with someone very up to date on the subject. In exchange for leaving his name out of it, because of his position, this is what I was told.

The oil problem has a lot to do with the fuel that is run. The problem is worse in northern New England and the U-P, and some parts of Canada because of the winter fuels we have to run. Apparently that creates the excessive carbon. Combined with the weaker rings in the '03s and '04s, problems are more common.

By the time I got done, and I can't go into detail about the discussion, it was agreed that my sled will be getting new rings (at no cost to me) and I'll take care of the stator. I still need to talk to the dealer again, to make sure that while the motor is apart, and the lower pan is off, that they clean out anything in the inside of the pan while they are there. Other than that, I'll be a happy customer again.

This came about today after I talked to my dealer this morning and was basically blown-off AGAIN, being told that because of the bad stator and bracket, that it sounds like they wouldn't want anything to do with the repairs. So today started out bad, then got much better.

It sounds like those who do have an oil use problem should replace their rings with '05+ rings, then it would be a good idea to use Ring-Free or Seafoam once or twice a year (depending on your mileage), at least in areas where this is most common.

Look at the air cleaner filter right by the breather hose, you may see some oil there. Seems the engine is sucking some oil out of the crankcase at high RPM. That is what I have noticed on my warrior. I used about 1/4 pint in a 435 mile trip.
