Ice Build Up

sledheadgeorge, Thanks for the advice. Sometimes simple cures are the best. I've narrowed down conditions that present a problem and will certainly do as you advised.

So, from the way it sounds....the snow is melting on the pipes and running back along the tunnel and freezing again. I'm guessing that none of you guys have that rear cooler installed......
The reason I say this....I do have the rear cooler installed on my Rage, and the way it warms up the tunnel in the back.....I havn't seen any crazy ice build up at all. Now, comparing my sled to my buddies 05' Warrior, I see what you guys are talking about. When we get done riding, he has a 2-3 inch thick sheet on the whole skid underneeth......and mine is all melted clean for the most part.

I'll add that to the 06 wish list. Stock rear heat exchangers - They won't do it I doubt as it would add weight and they want to go the other way.

What temperatures are you riding in?

I don't seem to have much build up until at least below -25°C. The only time I had enough build up to be a problem it was -38°C in the mornings and the high for the days were around -30°C.

On warmer days it seems the exhaust produces enough heat to pretty much melt the snow before it becomes an issue.

I should admit 90% of my riding has been either below -25°C or above -10°C - so a pretty big swing in temperatures (not much in between - so I'm not sure the exact transition temperature).

I have the rear cooler, and ice froze on the outer edge. I will take a pic this week-end to show you how many ice a RX-1 can Carry. Pretty impressive ;)!

CONVERT, I USE THIS STUFF ON MY SNOW PLOW AND SNOWMOBILE.
IT'S NOT PERFECT, BUT YOU CAN TRY IT. IT'S CALLED "SNOW GLIDE".
MADE BY VALLEY RESEARCH SYSTEM IN ROYAL OAK, MICHIGAN.
******VRS******
SNOW REPELLANT.
SPRAY OFF LOWER SIDE OF SNOWMOBILE AND SPRAY ON EVENLY.
WAIT 10 MINUTES.
THATS ALL THE INFO ON IT I HAVE.
C U LATER

TRY THIS!!!!

Another product that really helps that is available at a hardware store is 100% spray silicone.Make sure tunnel is dry and spray a couple coats of this on the tunnel. It is good for at least a few days of riding. It helps eliminate most of the snow and ice build up.Try it, you won't be sorry.Remember it is 100% SILICONE not the regular silicone lube spray. :4STroke:

I went riding yesterday and it was cold! did 130 kms and noticed the ice build up...so I let her iddle for several minutes before I loaded her in the trailer and most of the ice build up was down on the snow before I loaded her in the trailer.

When it's warmer like around -10 celcius, it doesn't seem too bad!

When Polaris installed a rear cooler an the Classic Touring in 2003, it was the worst I experienced. So, I really don't think it will help. It shoud just do the opposite; more water drops and ice build up.

my 151" tunnel only ices up when i am in deep Wet powder. if im in nice soft dry powder, some snow will stay under the track, the rest will just melt and leave the track.

For me it would impossible to be worse. The ice build-up I had was so large that it left me with about 2-3" of suspension travel and the majority was stuck right where the optional rear exchanger is located.

Wanna see ice build up, look that.

Only 40 km ride, hard ice trail.
