I just did my xtx mounts, and it's a piece of cake.
The mounts need about 1/8 cut off to slide a wheel with a 6205 bearing on it. I used the shaft that the wheel mounts slide over, and mounted it in a lathe, and slid the mount onto the shaft, locked down the set screw, and used a cut off tool to take off the 1/8 inch. Takes about 5 minutes.
It's worth the trouble machining the mount because the larger bearing holds up better.

I ended up buying kimpex polaris wheels. 135mm with the 6205 bearings. Used stock mounts for the 2 inners and 2 outers. Inners were machined 1.5mm off the elbow so the wheel would center in ride path. There is a small washer size gap where the mounts are not as wide as the 6205's but I just left them as they were and tightened them on. I've heard that placing washers in the space will heat up and crack and damage the bearings... not sure if its true but decided not to try it. I also used the bombardier two bolt mount to add 2 extra 135mm polaris wheels to the back of the skid. Looks well just worry bout the cracking... people say the new nytros have stronger skids and mounts... guess ill be the guinea.

Mooseman said:Here's an idea I just had. As far as I can tell, the diameter of the bearings are the same between the 6205 and the 6005, only the width is different. What if we could use a Doo 135mm wheel with a 6005 bearing? All we need to do is position the 6005 bearing in the middle of the 135mm wheel, cut a groove on each side of the bearing with a Dremel tool and install circlips on each side to retain the bearing in position. Does this sound crazy?
Scratch that idea. The diameters are not the same. These are the dimensions of the bearings (Outer dia X Inside dia X width):
6205: 52 X 25 X 15 mm
6005: 47 X 25 X 12 mm
What we would need is 52 X 25 X 12 mm. My next recourse would be to check with a local bearing specialist and see if such an animal exists. They may even have shims to properly locate the bearing within the wheel.
Damn Yamaha for using whacko bearings!

I kinda piggybacked onto your comments/photo over in that thread as well.
I realize we are talking two different types of sleds, but skids are skids and Yamaha engineered all the idler systems pretty crappy in my oh so humble opinion, lol.

all good i did some and slider screw holes i did the same but squared off the bottom so the nyloc nut fits flat so less pressure on the screw , great pics nice work

i could be way off base on this, but I put on the kimpex oversized wheels a season or two ago, andI thought I just but them on backwards to fix the offset issue? Look ugly as hell that way, but it works. No cracks (knock on wood) in the rail to speak of.

If the difference is 3mm between the 6005 and the 6205 bearings, why not take off 3mm off wear sits on the holder?

Inners wheels need to be centered between the inner lugs of the track. Shaving them 3 mm will bring them too close to one side, just like not shaving anything off the mount would.

Having said this.... If I only shave 1.5mm off the mount, then the bearing does not sit flush to the outside, correct? If so, does this put more stress on the bearing, then wheel holder, since it does not sit flush?

Not sure it matters. I had the bearing face machined instead of grinding the mount, so now I have full inner support for the 6205's. But on the outer 4 wheels I just bolted the wheels on the stock mounts without modification. The bearings do not have full inner support, but after a couple thousand klicks, it's all-good, nothing has failed.

Kimpex pro wheels question?
Question for any of you folks who bought those Kimpex pro wheels that are selling for $13.99. Not sure if it matters, but Do they have a rubber running surface, similiar to the oem wheels? And for anyone who has installed them, are they working okay so far? I have a 06 Vector with the same oem wheels and thinking of buying a set that you have discussed.
Thanks!!

Re: Kimpex pro wheels question?
Yep. I've put about 800Km so far and all is good. The bearings are no name "made in Romania" so they will probably need replacing after the first season. The wheels have full rubber contact surface.

I have about 400 miles (and not the best of conditions) on the doo 2-bolt setup with the Kimpex pro wheels and everything is all good so far...
