I just picked up a rear skid plate. I notice it came with fasteners. Does this mount to existing holes or will I be drilling new holes? Looks like I'm going to want to cut out an opening to drain oil on the right side.

The yamahaguys stopped by my place Sunday afternoon for a little thirst quencher. Based on my experience last year and theirs on their 2015's I would recommend that you start the install at the front of the sled and work back. In addition you may have to drill out some rivets but I believe the only modifications you should have to make is to slot a hole or two in the skid plate to make it fit to the existing holes.

Good luck and enjoy!

There is a few rivets you need to drill out and some new holes you need to drill in the plastic also. Once you hold it up under the sled it will all makes sense. Install the screws toward the front loosely to hold it in place and start drilling the holes using the skid plate as a template. Our first on took a few hours and the second on took like 20mins. A extra set of hands will help and a few beers to.

Drill 1/4 in holes in the bottom/back of all your ribs to let water drain, other wise water collects freezes and wants to push the skid plate off.

Great point, mine go into a heated garage after most rides so I've not encountered the issue. Thanks for sharing!

We drilled them when we put ours on with 1/16th bit. I also drill the skis so they drain also , i hate seeing a puddle of water standing in the skis.

If you've seen pictures of your new Vipers after a ride you probably need holes drilled around the whole sled for drainage! LOL! It looked like you were driving submarines when you took those pictures last night! Looking like you had a great ride!
