First Ride: This was all rode riding. The first 11 miles I was at 4000RPM, then following 15 miles I was between 5 and 6000RPM, the Last 5 miles I was running 6000-7000RPM and varied it to 8000 for the last 5 miles of the ride. Total of 29 miles.
Second Ride: I rode a groomed trail that was not groomed. So it was rough so I really could not get it to go really good. I was pretty much running 6000-7000 but varing it up to 9000 off a few crestes of snow. That was for about 10 miles. Then there was a good straight stretch that we normally run 1000-1200 ft @the most. My buddy (F7) and I lined up and we raced 4 times. (I won) I'm not sure how fast we were going because I was watching my tach the entire time, which was at 9800. He said we were doing a 100 on his speedo. By this time their was 40 miles on it. Rode it home driving it the same way 6000-7000RPM and then varing the throttle up to 9000 (short burst for 2-3 seconds). I know have 55 miles on it. Now I know the racing probably was not the best for it, but I am going to be going easy on it for the next 45 miles until I reach a 100 miles and then start to run it at say 5000-10000RPM at a varing speed until the 300 mile mark. In the book it does not say not to run it past 6000, but not too run it past 6000 for a prolonged period of time.
I believe they are thinking like a mile or two.
My dealer told me that because I was running it so hard that I might want to order rings for it now.
Oh ya, this is the dealer that I lost my 500.00 bucks too, so he is not the dealer I bought my sled from, but my local dealer. (long story as I assume everyone remembers). My real dealer just said follow the instructions in the manuel.
So am I breaking it in wrong, or is the damage done and should I just bring it in for a new motor now.
I'm sure I did not harm it, but I think they are just pissed at me and he is just saying BS to get me pumped. BTW, it's working....
What do you think?

I say bullshit. I basically am breaking mine in the exact same way except I kept it around 6500 for the first five miles then the next 25 were still around 6500 with short bursts up to 8000-9000 RPM on occasion.
There is no one out there with the patience to keep it under 6500 for 100 miles (or basically 30-35 MPH).

That dealer is an idiot :ORC
You are correct, the manual doesn't say to not exceed those rpm's, it says not to exceed them for prolonged periods of time.

im by far no motor expert, but that definitely sounds like a load of #*$&@, what an a-hole by telling you to order new rings.. i broke my sled in way harder than that, i was hitting full gas from the start, not on long runs, i did vary the throttle positions but i did run it fast alot. as of now my sled is running great and hitting 11000 rpms+..

We were pretty much even on the first race, but we were fighting for realistate, because the center was where the traction was. The other three times were tied out of whole and I beat him by about a sled length. Now, he is not stock. He has an ODS clutch kit, 2 degree timing key and fuel restrictor with a 1" track, no studs. I am compelete stock, no studs and mine only went to 9800 on the tach. Wait til I stud it, Ulmer Clutch kit and when the finally breaks in. Then will see. He's going to stud his too, so we'll see. I'm confident he will lose.MightyWarrior said:Oh yeah, How did you do against the F-7?

I think "prolonged periods" are the key words here, he's just pissed that you didn't buy from him!
