Alatalo said:To my knowledge, not a single FX Nytro did blow an engine because of insufficient OEM oil filter capacity. However, there are couple of them that ended up in serious trouble because of interference problems caused by non-OEM filters...
Also, there is not really any need to use bulky oil filter wrenches or filters with welded on nuts. There is already a perfect fitting socket existing for the OEM filter. You can order it through any Yamaha dealer.
X2 in the scheme of things, is it worth it to compromise your engine or warranty coverage for a cheaper filter? Im sure ill take flack for saying this but thats my opinion

You are 100% wright. But if a mobil one filter is better and cheaper, isn't that a good thing.

Not sayin yamaha filters are no good but the video would be more convincing if it wasn't made by yamaha. Does yamaha actually make their own filters or do they just have their name on them (like their oil)? I dont know myself but I doubt yamaha makes them.

The question remains - who says they are better...?mcamzr said:But if a mobil one filter is better and cheaper, isn't that a good thing.

Good point. I have been searching here and I thought I saw on a grizzly forum in the spring that ther were many better than oem but I can't find it anywhere.

So is there any benefit to using a bit longer filter like the M1? If it is better ill use it but if not than oem is fine too. Lets face it. Even if you had to change the oil 2 or even 3 times a year even $20 a filter is cheap ins. I guess my thinking is I am going to use M1 oil and would like to use their filter as well but if there is a 1% chance that I could crap something up I'm out!

That video makes me laugh!
Notice at about 1:20ish when he squeezes the canister then squeezes the other, think maybe he squeezed a little harder on the second one
And when has anyone ever seen a blown/split oil filter on something that isn't race related, and even then, does it happen?
I'll say this again, I have no doubt the Yamaha filter (made by whoever?) is probably a quality piece and I would feel comfortable using one, but I have no desire to pay double or more for one when I know there are other quality filters out there for less than half price.
