I had to install a new battery after one year of riding, had problems starting in temps under -15c .even worse with the low compression with the turbo kit.dealer said if the battery ins't disconnected or on a battery maintainer you stand the chance of only maxing your battery at 80% charge and that is borderline for your efi to even work?this is true for all yamaha modles and even some of there quads.

Batteries

I have a floating charger on my Harley and 65' Olds 442 (for years) and now I'm using a battery tender on my Apex. I have no problems this way.

I noticed my sled doesn't start as well in the cold after I installed the low comp pistons.
Pretty small reserve in the batteries on these sleds. For cold starting...crank til fires wait 15secs., crank til fires wait 15secs., ...repeat. Each time the engine fires it releases a bit of heat, by waiting between cranking it helps the heat to dissipate into the metal, warming the metal and helping it to start easier. I use this technique on my sled and can start it up to -30C.
Are you running semi or full synthetic oil?? 0 weight full synthetic oil will help as well.
On Wednesday I'm installing an inline heater...(it's minus 35C again this morning...sigh)

well i have the new batt. and still hard to start..dealer is going to put a cold weather kit on it next week hope it helps..last week -35c now its plus 15c..help... the snows melting.

I'm curious, what is there cold start kit. My S/C Apex will not start when it is cold.

I go out there like a sissy; If it is below 20degree's I can't play, I just bought an Oil tank heater and will try it out. Other than that I will go Randy's route(pour on the pounds and put a space heater under the hood) ;)!

Flex tubing hooked to the exhaust of your tow vehicle idling while you get dressed might do the trick also. ;)! I have heard of this trick used to start groomer and other heavy equipment that sit in the cold in remote areas.

I just use hot water and pour it over the intercooler and engine. Has got me fired in -28F with in minutes. Then I just let the sled idle while I get dressed so the fuel in the tank warms up and the frozen water that was hot when poured melts out. I have found that even 91 and 110 VP mixed 50/50 will be so lean that it pops and backfires unti lthe fuel tank sees some heat from the engine and exhaust.
