I was ordering a New Apex or possibly the Attack, but have changed my mind. I was not fortunate to ride the new 06, but did get to follow a pretty decent rider on one for a day. I watched the sled in action very closely. What I witnessed was enough for me to decide to keep my sled for another year. I do have a M10/136 under my 03. I would hit the same moguls as the 06, mine was smoother. After 3 years of modding and tinkering with mine, it is now 95% perfect. So I will keep it. Maybe an 07. I am also thinking of a Rage instead. Lighter, better on the trail. Plus with NOS, it would run with the big boys. As far as the value of my 03 dropping next year, it won't go much lower, I think maybe around 3500. So I can't loose. The only area where the 06 topped me was on top end on the lake, it would pull away from me at around 107. Big deal, I prefer the trails anyway and there we are equal or my 03 is even better.
Since all of the mods I've done in the last season, there is nothing to do to my sled now, just clean it and ride. I'll let the rest of you guys work out the bugs on the 06's. I'll just spend my money on a new trailer, or maybe a cabin.

Yea Mindy, I agree with ya. I am keepin my old rag for a while. However my little bro just got off a Viper and ordered the Apex RTX. I got him converted from a 2 smoke to a real sled..........Cubby

Hey indy, let me know where I too can find a cabin for the price of a new sled :tg:

Just kidding, I know what you mean.

Indy your sled is basically identical to mine. I agree hard to find anything that will ride better. My two youngest are off to University this fall so don't need 3 sleds so sell two and buy one leves sled budget the same plus I LOVE fuel injection.

hear ya'

I put myself in the same dilemma. Although, with an '05 I'd really be losing my @$$ on a trade. As much as I don't want to get beat by my buddies, who are getting RTX's, I may just have to take it for a year. Maybe I'll just do some mods that hopefully will allow me to stay close to them. As much as I want an Apex, it isn't practical. You're also right as far as getting bugs worked out. 2nd year is always a better bet.
:o|

Way to go Indy ;)! The RX's aren't all that bad, especially after you spend some money ;)

The only things that bug me about my '04 are the seat height and comfort - really. The ride is still getting tweeked, but it's 200% better than last season, so a couple more years can't hurt, besides that '06 is, for the most part, an intro year so there's bound to be something to work out for '07.

I'm going to hold-off for that 150 FI cross-over sled (Venture GT??? model with removable seat and interchangeable hard-side luggage - HINT HINT YAMAHA ;)

Indy, If I had all the money and time stuck into my RX1 that you do, I would do the same. The m10 is still hard to beat on the trails for ride and comfort and when you add an M10 to a RX it will put more on the skis and that will really help the handling and ski lift issues that some 03 and 04 are plagued with. ;)!

But if you other guys are in the Market for a new sled the Apex is an awesome sled... :D

Another thing to keep in mind is you cant really get the feel for sled like the Apex unless you ride it....it feels way different then an RX

Indy, I'm in the same boat. I love it with the exception of my skid, and I'm going to try an expert out this coming season.

Love the sled, plenty of miles left in the motor.

same boat here too. My warrior with the m10 is amazing. No reason to go with the 06 yet for me. I'll just keep building on what I have.

I'm disapointed in all the hype claiming the RX is a dinasaur. The 06's are the only 4 stroke that is anygood finally. Even the two smokers are getting in on it.

Maybe it is because I bought a 05 but how did the RX go from awesome to junk in one year? Boggles the mind!

Well I'm going to keep my RX for a few more years I think. Even if I am riding junk tech. Only thing I might change is the rear skid but I have one more mod I want work on.

I'm with you guys. I don't have $9000.00 burning a hole in my pocket any ways, but consider this. I rode a friends 05 Fusion 2 weekends ago and was playing around with the movable handlebars. If you haven't seen one, on the Fusion the bars articulate about 10 inches forward and backward, the whole steering assembly moves front to back. I can tell you that in the woods it was night and day. Bars forward gives you an over the ski Rev feel, easy to stand and lots of room. Moving them back makes you cramped in the twisties, hard to stand up, not enough purchase againt the skis... sound familiar? Sounds like an RX1. I would be willing to bet that a properly adjusted RX1 with a tall seat and taller forward bars would be pretty close to an Apex. I know I will take some flack for this, but I would love to hear from someone with an RX1 with a BOSS highrise, and art. taller bars that has ridden an Apex. I bet they wouldn't see as much of a difference. Ergos can change as much as suspension and fuel injection when it comes to the feel of a sled. And, on the Fusion that was only one minor change. Start moving the seat, bars, etc its bound to make a difference even with all else left alone. Of course the 06's feel better, but so can an old 03! OK, hit me guys...I'm ready :~)

I think you will have to figure out a way to sit on the filler neck and remove the windshield for an RX to be even close. But a taller seat would definitely be an improvement, as I'm 11'-7" tall. LOL

Before trying to make an RX-1 into an Appex, consider the REAL purpose the RX's served - to prove to the world that a high-performance 4-stroke snowmobile can be built. Now that they have the 4-stroke established, and the market cornered, Yamaha is focussing in on luring customers away from the competition.

4fighter,

I just sat on an Apex and a Nytro 2 nights ago and the ergos are almost identical. They Nytro is built on the RX1 chassis, same tank, same cowl, just higher seat and forward bars. They feel and look the same to me. No need to move onto the filler neck on an RX1. By the way, the filler neck is in the same location on the Apex as it in on the RX1! Bars and pod are moved forward, but the tank is in the same place. By the way, have you ridden an Apex and RX1 modified as I described? Keep the feedback coming guys, this is useful information for all of us!
