Only at idle. Last time I had it (years ago) it was the screws on the secondary wearing down, allowing the shivs to close in, tightenning the belt so it chirped. My dealer gave me a set of washers to shim the shivs apart instead of the screws and all was well for many miles. It's doing it again. Changed the belt, same thing. I've noticed many sleds seem to do it, but it bugs me. Thought of using steel wool on the clutch surfaces or adding another washer.

It is annoying but if your sled isn't creeping at idle then it's likely adjusted just about perfect. Mine occasionally does it too but I've just learned to ignore it.

My belt squealed too, so I just took out a set of washers. You say that you added washers? Unless your RX clutch is different from the RS, adding washers would make the belt squeal even more. Unless, I am missing something.

The center to center meassurement is a little to far out If you take out the washers under the screws on the back of your secondary it will spread out your secondary just enough so it wont squeal but check clutch alignment also

IF you run the carlile ultimax 3 belt it is slightly longer than the yamaha belt that may take care of the problem. I know I seem to be the only one but my vector will not hold a yami belt it trashes it with in a 100 miles. I have had no problems with the carlile belt though.
Your belt should be just slightly above the secondary sheave or even with it.
The bolts wear out with time so it allows the the sheaves to close further raising the belt.
either get new bolts or remove a washer

My ultimax 3 squeals a bit after a good thrashing (fine when cool), stock belts don't squeal on my clutches. This season the UM3 seams to be holding up, last year I had blown up two of them by now. Much deeper conditions last year though. Hoping for a decent Feb/March!

The washers I have in there are between the two sides of the secondary and hold them apart. Won't removing a washer let them come closer together and thus make the belt ride further out and tighten the belt?

I had a feeling that you didn't understand which washers everyone is talking about...
The washers to which we are referring are on the back side of the secondary. There are 3 bolts there, with usually 1 or 2 washers on each bolt. One washer is thicker than the other (one is 1mm thick and the other is 0.5mm thick). The washer(s) on the supplied diagram is numbered 9.
By removing a washer on each bolt (add or remove as a set), you are allowing the bolt to set further inside the hole, thus pushing the sheaves further apart, thus allowing the belt to slip further down.
I do not believe that there should be washers between the sheaves, again refer to diagram.
Confused yet?

I get it. My dealer told me to remove those three screws (because their tips wear and let the shives close in over time) and instead of using them to set the separation distance he gave me a stack-up of giant diameter (1 1/4in or so?) washers to put right between the two halves.

Why wouldn't your Dealer just give you 3 new screws? Can these screws really wear down that quick?
