I have the same luck running Amsoil, try something different and see if it continues?

Currently I am running Mobil-1 syn 0W-40 European formula and have zero consumption issues. ;)!

i was wondering that also usually a good days ride i go from full on the dipstick to halfway to low been thinking its burning oil but some say its normal . my spark plugs burn black was told it was normal for apex what do yuor plugs look like

It's not normal.

i'm thinking that 0w20 oil its so light for heavy ride!!!But i would like to know what ulmer think about this !!with 0w40 oil i put approximately 1/2 quart per year(2000-3000 miles)

what do you think is wrong with it. it still hauls #*$&@ but a little harder on fuel

I don't know, and the only thing I can think of is, it is too thin?

I tried Amsoil in my p/u truck and my Grizzly, and both consumed it.

Put Mobil-1 in my truck and Shell Rotella T in my Grizzly and both stopped consuming it.

Lots use it and have no issues, but some, like me, do? :dunno:

I use ow20 Valvoline full synthetic....but I change my oil (suck it out of the tank only) about every 500 miles or less.

In 2008 I emailed Joe Gibbs about their oil and explained to them in detail about our Apex snowmobile engine...that it's like an R1 bike engine, revs 10000rpm and spends a lot of time at HIGH RPM....

Here is the reply, from the FAMOUS 'Lake Speed".

Take it for what it's worth...

It sounds like his sled is burning oil no matter what he puts in. That's alot of oil. I used Joe Gibbs 0w-20 for a year & Mobil 0w-20 for a year on my other Apex with very little oil loss & I'm hard on the throttle. It DID have some blow through in air box & that went away when switched back to 0w-30. I would try Yamaha's 0w-40 & see what happens. If you're still losing oil then, it's time for rings...

Ulmer Racing has run XP2 in Apex & FX Nytro models starting in the fall of 2007. We have even run XP0 in racing applications with no oil burning. We contacted them with the engine tolerances Yamaha runs and they sent us both XP0 and XP2. The only down fall to the Joe Gibbs oil is that the "corrosion resistance" is not as high as Yamalube, so we recommend changing the oil in the spring time when your season is over. Joe Gibbs now has a new MX1 oil that I would like to try as well, but haven't yet.

How many miles on the sled? How was the sled broken in?
