Jumped Ship, But It's been a great ride!!

TB151,

What is the permanent fix for the coolant leak? Is Doo replacing all of the hose clamps with stronger ones?

stevewithocd: I would cross out dragon from list. Seems dragon at at end of product life cycle & old tech. Not saying it isn't a good sled just poos time to move forward & hyping the Rush.

So far there is no reported fix, other then dealers all replacing all of the clamps with better ones. My dealer is getting that work covered under warranty of course though, so ski doo knows there is a problem.

As for sled choices, i think thats very personal. I have personally always had big heavy muscle sleds, the Apex included and just decided that I wanted to try something light, with a longer track. The XP just appealed to me, very visceral look and riding experience. Like riding a track version of a Dodge Viper with heads on it and a tweaked suspension.

Also an interesting note, 2 of the guys bought Artcic Cat Bearcats for their hunting trips to Labrador. These are more utilitarian sleds of course. They actually rode those quite a bit with our group. Well, as of 3 days ago they sold them and bough 2 new Renegades. They said screw it, and will use the renegades for their hunting trip and for fun on the trails. And, another guy who rides with us some of the time and rents sleds, decided to finally buy one and also bought a Renegade. When we head up to Maine on Thursday, mine goes in for more new clamps, and at the same time, we are picking up 3 brand new ones.. That says something right there, those guys all had some seat time on mine.

Well out of the 4 of you, we should know if they breakdown or not.. keep us informed... are the others 600 or 800's?

Thanks,

Hey Guys,
I figured you all were doo for another update. Last weekend we put on another 400+ miles. As it stands now my 09 XP 800 Renegade X has a little over 1100 miles on her this season.

Coolant leak: The dealer replaced all of the remaining clamps, and that resulted in Zero coolant loss from then on. Problem solved.

Other Sleds Performace:
So last weekend 2 friends picked up 09 800 Renegades, 1 09 600 E-Tec Renegade, and a last minute buy included an 09 800 Summit 146! (someone had track envy)

I'm happy to report that there were ZERO problems with these sleds throughout the weekend, and the new ones had an extra day on me to ride and logged about 600 overall miles. One of the 800's did have the dreaded coolant leak, and thats going into have all of the clamps replaced. The dealer has gotten very good at it, but just cant do it until you first have a leak.

Final Words:
Everyone is in love with them, and we have seen ZERO belt failures or plugs fouled. Also, that Etec hets ridiculous gas mileage.

Check your y pipe allen bolts. We had 2 xp's in the mountains last week have to exhaust loosen up and break off.

They added lock nuts and now all is well.

Great sleds to ride, I just find it disturbing that my doo buddies think its normal doing complete rebuilds every 3000km.

This is mountain riding, I don't what is like out east.

I rode an XPX renegade E-Tec this weekend. All I have to say is that DOO hit a home run with this sled. Over 20 MPG all weekend, hardly any oil and extremely quick for a 600. The only thing my apex did better was go fast.

I saw the ALL Black Gade at a hotel a few weeks ago. Looked real good.

Keep us informed. 1100 miles isnt alot, I do that in 4 days of riding and I do that 3-4 times a season. If you get 5000 miles on it without any trailside breakdowns, I'd be very surprised.

Both of my REV's only lasted about 2500 miles before new motors were due.

I guess I should relocate..lol..down here in hedgerow country, sleds just don't last without problems, or get those kind of mpg's..full tilt, brake, rocks, plowed fields...lol and that's on the corridor trails!!!
Where's the mud on those sleds???
;)!

good luck, we'll always take you back...i used to ride ski-doos but had to many burned down motors so i went to yamaha and i love em. they're DOPE! i also love the FI and the power. good luck man
