Re: Clunking noise
I'll second that. When it grips, it will SNAP the control rod to the high-transfer position.
low flying missile said:My guess is that it is the coupling mechanism in the skid. I would suspect it is normal and nothing to be worried about.

My Attak ratcheted 1 time a very little bit. The track was just a little loose. That 150 EFI hits so fast and hard that if the track is the least bit loose and the rip saw bites down on somthing it will ratchet. made it a little tighter and it's fine now. They do stretch some after the first few rides.

well i now have 260km on the sled and its still doing this. Its for sure in the suspention some place but i cant seem to find it. Going over some bumps and it will do this. Is this a sound all mono skids have or is it just mine?
I also noticed this on my Attak but figured it was the mono skid?
its only on packed snow that you can find this, in the deep stuff its
not there. I thought it might also be some build up of snow and ice ?
I will be checking the skid this week when i go over the entire machine
for loose nuts/bolts/ etc..... 400 klm so far

The clunk over bumps is just the limiter strap/ suspension. I use to think it sounded like ice, but its not. I have 530 miles on my Apex. It hasnt ratcheted yet (knock on wood), just a few clunks over a couple bumps

Clunking is normal I think

I have the same clunking on my RTX and my friend gets exact same clunking over exact same bumps on his ER. It is not racheting as it does it only over sharp bumps that are close together. It doesnt do it much over the roller type bumps. It does it every time on the choppy type of bumps at low speed. I think it is the limiter strap snapping back or some other mechanism. But, since my buddy's sled (Apex ER) does it over the exact same bumps as mine when we are riding together, i'm not going to worry about it.![Die :die :die](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/die.gif)

I was hearing a clunk from day one. Then all of a sudden it got real bad. Track will barely move. Tried tightening track, no help at all. Seems like a hell lot of clunking coming from clutch. Track just won' t turn and very
tight. Not even 100kms on machine. 06 attak.

Could be the clutches.
I notice the same on my Attak. After 310mi., I've come to the conclusion it's the primary or secondary clutc engaging abruptly. I've also notice the skid collects a lot of ice & the track does rub on the collected ice. You can confirm/deny the clutch theory by raising the rear off the round, remove the shroud & left upper cover & by watching & listening to the clutches.

I had a clunking sound but only in the ruff stuff. Figured it is the limiter staps?

BINGO! Same exact thing on my Attak. Driving into towns....slow....over stutter bumps...the front of the suspension sounds like it is slamming up and down near the limiter strap.
No sound on the trails............only driving into towns over those sharp bumps at slow speed.

Same problem on my GT. Only over close larger bumps, like coming into town and it does sound like it's in the front of the suspension. My 05 mono skid didn't do this, other than the wheels and the grease fittings did anything else change on the 06?

OK i am as nuts as the next guy,, i have a new attack and have heard the same clunk,,, it's not ratcheting,,,, my guess is that it is the coupling mech as noted earlier..... in about 200 miles i have heard the clunk maybe 3 or 4 times.... love the sled , best rider i have owned... a little quicker than what i was expecting as well... For those thinking about ratcheting, you will hear multiple thumps every time you hit it hard when you have good traction....
