OK, have used several Garmins on my sled over the years( 3+. V, 60CS) but I'm tired of the small screens. What is a good waterproof model with a large screen that is easy to read and I can download trails to?

I have nuvi 500 which is a great sled gps but also wanted a bigger screen. I now have a GPS640 and it is way better!

Just ordered a ball from ram for the gps side and used the ram mount that came with my lake effect riser. Added a 12V yamaha plug added 1 wrap of black electrical tape for snug fit. Big screen is nice! Also has marine mount and functions.

I love my Nuvi 550, waterproof, large touch screen, mounted to my riser and viewable while stopped on the trail. You can now get them for a little more than $200.

I didn't realize the Nuvi 550 was waterproof. I have a Nuvi (of some kind) in my car and like it, but it's not waterproof. I may consider a new unit sometime for use in car/boat/snowmobile. At least I could justify a new "luxury" expense that way, LOL!

Bottlerocket, I'm curious, what type of features does the 640 have that makes the price what it is? I know the downloadable maps are expensive - does it come pre-loaded with more than the standard US and Canada driving maps that most auto GPS units have?

It also has Marine plotter for CA and US. Comes with one quick disconnect for a auto mount and a hardwire mount for marine that will work with sonar/radar. If you go to garmin.com you can view all the stats and compare with the unit your considering. I wanted the bigger screen the most. I have redpine mapping for snowmobile trails for MI,WI,IN and MN. I have vvmapping in my nuvi 500 which is also a get choice for sleds.

Ive used my Garmin Nuvi 255W car GPS for 2 seasons now and i love it.Cost me $30 at any local Pawn shop, i don,t pour water on it,but its stayed outside nite after nite on sled and thru many snowstorms.
Bought the New Brunswick Canada maps from Trackmaps and copied them over to the SD card, works perfect, and saves tracks, plus has turn by turn. How can ya beat it for $30 used.
I liked it so well i bought 2 more and gave to my buddies with preloaded maps..........

That's a lot of love for a GPS !!! You must have been tired of all they guys being behind you and lost hahaha
