As I was doing work on my rear of my sled I put the pieces I took off the sled in a box--tunnel protecoters, random plates, plastics
muffler and stuff. It weighed in at 26lbs. So the stock setup weighs a total of 34lbs.

Right now I have the stock seat (8lbs) that still needs to be securely mounted--most like 10lbs in the end.

Re-doing my exhaust becuase my 2" track is going to rub on it when the suspension is fully compressed.

How did u get so much off ur seat that's like 24 lb s if u can no offense y can't skinz do that their seats only do 9 lb and what about the battery affecting handwarmers

The only reported problems with a smaller battery is cold starts. I do not have first hand experience yet. In theory your sled provides enough voltage to handle everything just fine.

26lbs in plastics muffler tunnel protecters random plates and then you add 8lbs for the stock seat. that means the stock setup weighs 34lbs. Another words with no muffler at all and no seat at all and a lot of other parts removed it will weigh 34lbs less.

You then need to add an aftermarket muffler, block off plate and get the seat mounted.

My setup is not complete yet and definately not tested. Go with the skinz setup for a turn key setup.

Ok well this is what I was thinking for weight skinz seat, skinz runningboard, and yoshumira exhaust??? Any opinions I may do the battery to and I wanna stay with I've the tunnel exhaust I think not sure tho... Also I was thinkin bout tryin the new yamaha mtx skis u can't go wrong with 70 bucks but what are ur opinion on them

It is much easier to take weight off the rear of the sled than the front. You may notice the Nytro will feel unbalanced if all the weight comes off the back. I noticed this when I replaced the heavy stock muffler and installed a Boss seat on my Vector. Later on I installed a 136 M-10 and the sled felt more balanced.

Ya that's interesting never thought about that besides battery there isn't a lot to do in the front tho but then again when u get stuck u never lift the front only rear

Front end kits will drop 6 pounds or so off the front. Battery will drop the same. Ditch the parking brake for a couple. Sway bar can loose a couple. Skis I would stay away from the crappy new mtx ski's, powderhounds are light. Steering post can be replaced with a lightweight one (skinz and CR I think make them)

For reference if I remember correctly my skinz seat weighed 6.5 lbs and my muffler weighed 3.5 so 10 lbs plus figure two for hardware and block off plate. 12 lbs would make a 22 pound loss  but I ride back country so there are no noise laws.

The skid has plenty of weight to be loss but since nobody makes anything for it, it's not really a viable option.

I have a lightweight battery and have started it down to -20 with no issues. It was only 60 bucks at bikebatts.com also

Battery is a great start to shave 9-10 off. And not to expensive! Or have the rider shave some off!
How does changing the battery effect lighting, starting handwarmers ... Ect

A battery with the same voltage rating will not hurt you a bit. Finding one with a few more Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) would actually help in extreme cold conditions. Braille has one that's 6.6 lbs. Otherwise Lithium Pros have one thats 4.4 lbs, but you're going to pay BIG $ for it.

Ok that's intresting thanks how do u like it skins seat and I have limited options in exhaust cuz I have to keep it under 73 dbi so ya and I have wide proto type a arms and ohlin shocks all around with expert x skid so that helps too... Are hid kits heavier and y stays away from tuner skis

If you have a welder you should be able to weld up a small tube mount for the seat.
piece of pipe, couple small bends, some feet to rivet to tunnel and tap 2 holes for the seat mount bolts. all done. Been kicking around the idea for this season but i cant see how its any lighter then the shortened stock aluminum piece im using.
just gives u open air under the seat.
i like the stock trim panels...keeps snow out of there.

Just wondering what are ur opinions on undertunnel exhaust if I tend to bottom out around 5 times a sEason? And can someone explain the fuel controller to me because I was lookin at getting one if I run exhaust cold air intake and k and n filters ?

Do you know how much just the seat and their seat frame weighs? I wish somebody would make a rear bracket for the stock seat for like 50 bucks.[/quote]

Im working on this right now. I think it would look real good. I'll make one for myself and if guys are interested I could make a few more. I'm debating on the 4 post or just 2 post. Both would work. I also don't want to change anything on the seat. This way, you can flip back to stock look if you want.

Being a short track, a timbersled setup or an mcat float skid does not make real sense. They both would drop 30 pounds or more on an XTX and MTX, but those skids are not known as the most trail friendly. This would also require you to extend the sled and such.

The skinz seat only loses a lot of weight when you add the under tunnel kit with it. The SDR under tunnel exhaust is a complete kit that would both lose dry and riding weight. You could also fab your own under tunnel exhaust.

The battery option is easy and plan on doing it this year also.

From my reading because I am modding my sled right now too, I would suggest researching removing the foam on the panels, under tunnel exhaust, battery and relocating your tools. After that, you really start paying for items.

Do you mainly trail ride? I ask because some other mods may be better then just focusing on losing weight.

Yes...I only trail ride...

I bet a Doo XP 120" rear suspension weighs less than the yamaha 121 skid. That something you could look at. Probably get into a GOOD rear skid with X package shocks for around 5 to 600 bucks, maybe.

I never weighed them, but when handling them within a few days of each other, it sure felt a lot lighter.
