I used to have an ’05 Ski-Doo Renegade that came with this little tool that you used to change the belt. It was like a long bolt with a handle on the end. To change the belt you simply threaded this thing in the secondary clutch and it pushed the sheaves apart. It literally look like 2 minutes to change the belt. And it was effortless – no skinned knuckles or anything.
Is this kind of setup available for the Yamaha clutch? Or has someone figured out a way to mod the clutch for this type of belt changing procedure?

I think that I heard this from someone on this forum. Not sure if your clutch is different - I just put a 12mm wrench on one of the bolts on the secondary, turn clockwise and the sheaves spread. Doesn't get any easier than that.

Sorry guys. Never ever had a prob changing it manually in about 10 seconds unless you fight with a panel removal on the 06 & newer.

Yup I dont know what they are finding so hard in it. With engine off take of guards push & turn the secondary so it opens belt drops into it keeping it open giving you lots of slack. Take it off the primary then the secondary done. To put the new one on check the belt direction and put it around the primary then start at the top of the secondary roll it down on the secondary by hand as if to make the sled go backwards. The belt will go on and as it does the sled will move backwards a bit until the belts slips around and into the secondary sheaves replace guards done. Now this is how I have always done it and it does not take very long. Any body else with some tips to make it easier?

Same here. 30 second job. Put on the parking breaking, spin the clutch backwards an inch and the sheaves open right up.

I've never had much luck with turning the secondary open. I always seem to fight it, slip and hurt my hand somehow. Maybe I'm just a wuss, but I really liked how effortless the Doo setup was. I'll have to check out that thing from Richmotorsports.

After a new belt is installed, pull the belt backwards to have the secondary backshift and push the belt to the top of the secondary, now your sled will be taking off in 1 gear

I always rev it up and kick the clutch in and roll the sled ahead a few feet with myself on the side not on the sled to kick it in the first time which would do the same thing.
