Looking for HID headlights

55W 4500K DDM Tuning kits in both my Yamaha's.

Have had a few issues with Rock's ballasts in our group, three have failed. Has replaced one so far, the other two looks like no dice.

Rocz ballast on two for sure, possibly the other is sledstart, can't say for 100% sure tho.

Not reefing on Rock, he's been great, just reporting our experience, sometimes chit happens.
Cheers.

Very surprised that he has not fixed up the other two unless they are older systems then I can maybe see Roc not doing anything.
Roc has top notch customer service. Yes chit happens.
I have the first gen system that gets wired to the battery. Bought the upgrade kit from Sledstart to eliminate the relay and battery wires.
Turns out that I needed to spend another $125 plus shipping to get updated ballast. The patch cable upgrade does not work with the older ballast.
Wish Sledstart would have informed me about that before I spent the $50+ on the patch cables. Good thing is that after 4 years the old system is still working.
I have equipped 3 other sleds with Roc's kits and they have not had any issues thus far.

A little off topic but in my old car I have a set of Lucas Carrello Halagon (High) sealed beams (still using) Talk about yellow light compared to the new GE halagon sealed beams (high/low). I had a set of HID's from rock in the car but in a set of h4 headlights I bought off E-Bay cause I mistakenly tossed one of my Carrello H4 lenses (if I had kept it I could have got the lens recromed Doh who new that they would not be made anymore). I hated the India made crap lights with the HIDs but I tried the old Carrello lamp and It was nice. I only bring this up because with the 4 Carrellos in the car I could light up the road for at least a mile and the lights didn't look yellow till the newer cars came along. Everything has swung towards white and now is swinging towards blue.

Yet people where amazed by my lights in the late 70's and thought them to be super bright when they lit deer and signs hundreds of yards down the road. I don't think my 2010 has any brighter lights that shine any further then my old car had, they are just whiter.

It's also possible to get a nice improvement in brightness by just replacing the stock bulbs with Sylvania Silverstars. This involves just a bulb change and you get about 20 to 25% more light down the trail. Very effective and no hassle. They do have a shorter life than the stock bulbs but this is really not an issue for sleds, just for cars where they are just as helpful, but only last for 50000 miles or so.

I used Silverstars for years in my sled, had one burn out and then replaced with Rock's HID's. I don't think the HID bulbs are any brighter, but the lamps are much better focused. You can have good high and low beam functionality with the HID kit.

When my son first added HID's I was running Silverstars (like the 3rd or 4th set previous bulb failures). He pulled up next to me at night and we could not even tell if I had headlights on or off. In fact I turned my sled off and restarted it made no difference, his HID's were sooo much brighter...

Had Rocks HID'S in my 2008 Apex problem with a bulb sent me a new one. Now have them in my 2012. Daughter has them in her 2013 apex. Could not be any happier with them. Money well spent.
