Looking for suggestions. My 17 RTX is hard to start and idles quite low ( 1000 rpm). It has fresh fuel as I drain all fuel for storage. Can anyone tell me what the spec is for throttle play and typical idle speed ? It does seem a bit excessive ; not sure if that could be the cause. I bought it new one year ago; I wouldn't think that plugs would need replacing at 1000 miles ??
thanks for any replies

Credit Card works great for setting throttle play. Find the tightest spot and use card there to set it.
Have you run it till warm? No matter if you drain fuel from tank is still alot in rail and lines to run out. Just that could be enough to kill a plug. Cant explain why but bad gas that kills a plug it seems many times the plug is shot for good even after cleaning and drying out.
No tune... I did tighten up the throttle linkage and it is still reluctant to start and close to stalling when it does start. It seems to run fine with a little throttle. When it warms up, it will idle around 1000 rpm. It ran fine at the end of last season. All I have done is change the engine oil and the chain case oil.tune or not?

Is battery good also?
I believe the battery is good. Had it on a tender all summer. Is battery good also?
Whats voltage with it running on your gauge? I would change plugs if batt is good.I believe the battery is good. Had it on a tender all summer.
No codes?

Mine acted like that at the beginning of last season. Started hard in cold weather and had to give it some throttle to start it and keep it running. Got progressively worse during the early season and it gave me a hard time on 3 concurrent weekends in a row. Plus it was running fat which is why I needed to stay in the throttle to start it, and it would barely idle for quite awhile even once 100% warmed up.
I did not know what was causing it but I had also just received a tune so that was a possibility.
So I dropped it off at my dealer’s shop, and to make a long story short, they replaced a #*$&@ load of parts.
Injectors, fuel regulator (2cnd time), tps, and other components. I saw the list but did not get a copy of it. All I could say was WOW that was a bunch of parts.
All I know for sure is once I finally picked it up, it started first time every time and the idle was right on.
Hope yours clears up by itself and does not get worse as the season goes on.

Change your plugs. I have had some foul up on my Nytro and Apexes on the first start up after the summer. They did exactly what you explain.

Mine also did this one weekend for a little while. Cleared up though. I just rode it and then it was all better. Not sure why.
