I have had loose clunking lower ball joints for quite some time now :-o hahaha

Doesn't really affect field/backcountry riding much so I lived with it. Anyway they are clunking away pretty good now and I bought some new ones.

Do I need to take the spindle off and press it out? Thought I'd ask here first. Don't feel like doing trial and error, guaranteed someone here has a good method. Thanks

I've done them with the arms on. Don't forget to remove the circlip on the underside. I use my truck balljoint press c-clamp with a large socket for the balljoint to drop in. A regular c-clamp should work too.

Do you have to do anything with the ball races, or you mean they just press out with the socket? Or do they fall out with the circlip gone?

Or maybe you can just do the job for me that'll be way easier hahahahaha

Balljoint and race are one unit. There are aftermarket ones available. I installed a set and they've been good so far. Wish Royal also had the uppers and outer tie-rods.

Am I reading the catalogue wrong, or does Royal sell the upper ball joint now???

According to Yamaha Genuine Parts Canada, the lowers are $113 and uppers $111CAD. And it sure looks like Royal has the uppers at $50CAD. Still cheaper than getting them from the Stealership.

I picked up a Phazer with 315 miles. Both lower ball joints were totally shot. The linings had deteriorated and were protruding out of the bottom of the ball joint. The ball joints I use in my custom a arms last around 10,000 miles and only cost around $18.

Odd, 8,000 miles on my 09’ and the lowers are still fairly tight, the uppers are getting bad though. I hit them all with a white lithium grease spray can before every ride.
