Anyone ever remove the side casing on the mag side of the motor? I need to get at my starter clutch ,its chewing up starters. It appears that I have to pull the motor. I have the motor mounts out and casing screws removed, motor is partially raised ,but I'm still having a hard time getting the casing off. I think the magnet is pulling it back in ,because there is a lot of resistance. I can pull it back about an inch. I just need to inspect the starter clutch gears. Man what a pain!

You don't have to raise the motor to pull the mag cover off, just pull it straight out. The magnetic pull is strong but it does come right out with a good tug. The starter gear may fall off but its easy to slide back onto its pin.yes strong magnetic pull keep pulling lol.

it doesn't just pull right out. Have you removed it without pulling the motor? I had to move the motor just to remove the screws. Its an 08 Vector ,which I believe should be a similar process to the Apex. I'm not getting anywhere on The Vector forum.

The motor has to come out on a Vector, but not on an Apex. The sleds are virtually the same, but the two motors are very different.

My experience has been that you must pull motor if it's a vector but apex's you don't.
Give a tug and a wiggle straight out and it should come. I've done a few starter gears on the vectors in my day. If there is carnage in there, it may be causing your problem. There is nothing else holding that on but the 10 or so 5mm Allen bolts and magnetic force.
