Well Walmart at my surprise took back my 300 and let me order the 600! This unit does the same thing but has a lithium Ion battery and a better color screen. I ordered the handle bar mount and the cig ligter adapter too. You can also add all the SD memory you want so it is able to grow right along with your needs. If you want more into on the unit here is the link.

Well it came in this morning and it sure is easier to read the screen than the 300 I had.

Nice unit. I still have MapSend Streets and Destinations for Canada. Will this software work on the Explorist 600?

Is there anything that the 600 can not do?
I'm looking to buy soon!

Well one thing I am not happy about it is the way the power connector and USB cable hook up to it in the back. It hooks up with a little screw and compression connector pins. I wish it just had a small usb and power connectors separatly on the unit with different cables. They have an Explorist XL with a bigger screen and I am hoping this one will be set up this way. I bought mine at GPS central in Calgary. Hope this answers your questions.

WOW...if it only had a 2-way radio!!
I am looking for this exact product and have been waiting for some time for someone to come up with it. I have one question. Can you download topo and street maps to the SD card? On the web site it seems that you have to buy preloaded maps on the SD card and use them in the handheld. I assume that's my misinterpretation of how they work. Let me know since I am really excited to get one since I have been looking for a compass, temp gauge, altimeter, and GPS (now if it only had a 10 mile 2-way radio I would be in heaven...)

I think you just have to buy the CD and then upload them to your unit by usb from your puter to the SD memory card.

Little Tip Rod pull the memory card out and get one of those card readers you can hook up to the puter, makes uploading and downloading go 20X faster I put a 512meg stick in mine enough to handle detail maps for the entire US.

Good to be back, Thanks! The cable is also used for charging the lith ion batteries too though. The thought of hooking it up every night in the motel room and taking the cable off in the morning I think will cause the flimsy hookup to fail. Maybe not!
You know GPS group buy on this site would be a good thing also if we could get the numbers we could get a good price.

XL group buy
I would be interested in a 600 or XL group buy. Especially if the XL has the thermo and compass....

Explorist XL
This one has the option of using AA, nicads or litium. I like that already and judging by the pic looks like they change where the power and usb hook up. This unit is supposed to be available the end of oct. Has a much larger screen also.
