Put the turbo on last fall. It's the 12lb kit/w head shim. I have about 600 miles with the turbo and the only problems have been code 84's. Went for a ride yesterday and the sled started first try. Ran good up the trail, maybe quarter to half throttle for 3 to 4 miles. Jumped off the trail into some slow boondocking stuff and it rad good for about 2 miles then started to act like it was trying to load up on the bottom end. If I open the throttle it cleans out, builds 10 to 11lb of boost and the a/f is in the 12's. Slow down and it runs like it has a fouled plug or 2, come to a stop and it just dies. Did see a code 84 come in so I bypassed that, code gone but still runs like crap. Now the only way to get it to start is to hold the throttle 1/2 to 3/4 open. I put new plugs in up on the mountain but no change. It's getting stripped down today, so I'm looking for a list of things to check. Is there a chance of the TPS going bad but not throw a code? thanks for any help.

yes, pulls hard wot. " pop the TB off the head" what?? I just got off the phone with a guy who thinks it could be water in the gas. that gas is going away. what else to check?

OK

I just went through a similiar issue. Mine turned out to be the pressure line going to the boost controller was torn. I would check for vacuum leaks. Where is your boost gauge and fuel controller pulling readings from(intercooler or throttle bodies)? If it is from the intercooler, you could have a leak in the pressure lines on the throttle bodies. You say you are building boost on your gauge. If your boost gauge is connected to the throttle bodies, this probably isn't the problem. Also, pull the codes. Mine didn't have any codes displayed, but when I pulled them, I had code 14 which was a disconnected/clogged pressure sensor line. Run the diagnostic on the TPS as well. Although, I think you would have problems at wide open throttle if your TPS was bad, but check it. Let us know what comes of it.

OK I put it back together enough to pull the codes. Had three, 15-20-84. The 20 would be from last week, rode two days back to back and had the 20 for a few minutes the second morning. Have had the 84 several times and bypassed it yesterday. I have never noticed the code 15 TPS but its there. I tried to check it and if I'm doing it rite the numbers are 24 throttle closed and 105 throttle open.

Sounds like the TPS is bad.

Should read between 12-16 with throttle closed. Not sure where the top number should be. Mine was 16-97.

mine did the same thing when the blow off valve adjustment screw came loose thus creating a vacuum leak.......only start with throttle ran good under boost but would not idle

TURBLUE, where would I find this adj screw? took the blow off valve off the charge tube on the intercooler but dont see any screws. Also the compresion came in at 115,115,117,120 on a cold motor, are these numbers ok?

that compression seems low to me but you should check it hot.just did my 03 with 3200 miles,1000 boosted miles and it came in at 200

My point was that you might have a vacuum leak....hook some regulated air to the system and see how many leaks there are........easy to do

Your air filter may got plugged by steam freezing in the filter. Do you have a plate between the filter and the Turbo to shield off steam coming from the exhaust and turbo? My friend have a MCX turbo without the shield and have problems in deep snow specially on cold days. Even my RX-1 turbo encountered problems without the shield in place, I have one in there now, problem is gone.

A little update. I found water in a couple of the elec. plugs including the TPS plug. Also found about 1/2 teaspoon of water in the hose going from the plenum to the barometer pressure sensor. Kinda glad I stripped it down, found a few hoses and wires rubbing from poor choice in routing on my part during the turbo install. Going back together today, hope she runs ,I got seven days off and full barrel of race gas to burn.

another question, is this barometer pressure sensor thats mouned by the bottom of the battery, the sensor that throws the code 20? If not where is the sensor mounted that throws the code 20? thanks
