so an update. i can easily blow through the return line and the vent line to the turbo with my mouth. i checked for kinks or anything abnormal on the lines and they look good. so it isnt the vent line to turbo, return oil line, or shear pins on the oil pump. i am leaning towards the vent line being plugged, building pressure and pushing oil past the rings line you said above? i guess im not sure how to proceed from here, should i put it back together and run it to see if the vent line being plugged was the issue? anything else to check while i have it apart? also if it was the vent line how can i avoid that again in the future, there is currently a small kn filter on there now. thanks for all the help so far, this site is great!

Did you have a lot of oil in the intercooler? I think you should pull your return line, start the engine and make sure you are getting oil back top the engine from the turbo. Then you know for sure it isn't in the oil system and the breather iss the problem.

i havent taken my intercooler off yet, i still have to figure out how to do that.... can you elaborate on your statement of testing my oil system by taking off my return oil line and running the sled? not sure i understand

ok i would like to take off the intercooler and precooler to see how much oil is in them and clean them up.
do i need to remove the radiator to remove the intercooler? it looks like it might slip out with the radiator in. it looks like i can just sneak in and remove the clamps and remove the mounting brackets on the side and it will come out?
what is the best way to clean these up? just carb cleaner?
i had a professional install this kit because i was worried it would be to difficult, well the whole kit is pretty much off now! lol

Here are some good threads that I started with Oil line information.

The thread on snowest has a goodway to test your oil system by putting a bottle at the turbo and bottle at the return line at the engine and see if it is pulling more than getting pushed to the turbo.

Might be a stupid question but since you have checked the turbo vent line I guess the vent line you are now talking about is the crankcase breather?
On the MCX plenum if I remember correctly there are 4 hoses on the right side of it.
-vent line from the turbo
-vent line from cylinder head cover (if I remember correctly)
-vent line from oil tank
- and the ventline out of the plenum (where your rollover valve should be). (it has to be moved when installing the 180kit).
If there was to be pressure inside the engine the rather thick hose going to the rollovervalve needs to be clogged? How likely is this? Is your rollover open when not engaged?
Does anyone know if all the vent lines are joined together in one tank inside the MCX plenum?
(I guess they are).
When installing the MCX plenum the manual sais to remove the steering column/radiator so I think its a good idea to do so, it is very important to pay attention to the short rubber hoses between the plenum/throttle bodies. When installing them I use a mirror to make sure the clamps are even installed and that the hoses are evenly installed.
hmm

Once again, what is your milage without/with Turbo?

mileage without the turbo was like 175 and currently sled has 350. its bascially brand new. well i was not aware that the rollover valve should be moved to the vent off the plenum, mine is still where you would put it on a stock sled. guess i need to move that
yes there was ice and snow buildup on the crank vent from the plenum (mine has a kn filter on it).
well another thing was that my rollover valve WAS sticking prior to all of this, but i unhooked it and it was open.
im starting to think that i just need to clean it up, put it back together and go out and ride it again. there just seems to be too many possibilities and at least i have narrowed it down to NOT being some things like the shear pins and plugged return and turbo vent lines.

well i have to say i was a bit intimidated to take the radiator off and the plenum. well i said screw it and i just started unscrewing stuff. i took off the precooler first and there was a little bit of oil in there, but not too bad. then i drained the coolant and undid the steering post and took the radiator off. the plenum had a nice puddle of oil in it and you could see it was going down into the cylinders. so im HOPING this whole deal was due to the crank vent off the plenum being iced up causing pressure and therefore forcing oil past the rings. so im going to clean everything up at this point, MOVE my rollover valve to the proper location and see what happens.
i will say that i surprised myself taking it apart, and i hope i get it all together properly!
correction i did order a leak down test just for the heck of it, so im going to give that a try in a few days and see what that tells me before i put it back together.

It's a learning curve to come by, but you will feel a lot better when you have it back together again, a lot more confident than before. It's also a good thing knowing how your system is installed first hand.

If increased pressure inside the engine would make oil go past the rings and into the combustion chamber, your engine would smoke but I still cant see any reason why there should be oil in the precooler or mcx plenum.
I wonder why you got ice and snowbuildup on the crank vent, when you say crank vent you mean the hose coming from the cylinder head?
If you had ice in that hose you might aswell have ice in the other hoses entering the plenum. (thinking espcially of the vent line from the turbo, I dont know if a plugged turbo vent line can make the oil go past the seals in the turbo but f you did have more oil then normal in your precooler and plenum, then I would maybe suspect it to come from turbo seals.
Well, alot of speculations. I`m happy to hear that you tore into it, when you get used to the Nytro it is actually a very easy sled to work on.
I agree with RXrider, I feel more confident on my machine when I have done the wrenching myself, I never let anyone else touch my sled. Even if it`s warranty

judger101, give whoever is the most experienced MCX dealer over there a call and ask for advice, I often find myself putting lots time and effort into trying to fix a problem.. and lastly I take the phone and call someone who really knows and suddenly it all becomes clear.

Oil in the IC is always coming from the the turbo, oil is blown thru the seal inside the turbo because of insufficient oil return capacity.
Rxrider, isn`t it more likely that the black smoke came from the turbo and not past the pistons/rings?

I'm trying to figure out where the black smoke would come from... When mine was burning oil and blowing by oil past the turbo seals, it was white smoke.
