so after some serious thought i bought a mega float for my apex mono skid.
I have not recieved it yet but after ordering it i started thinking, i don't like the idea of leaving it exposed. has anyone seen any covers out yet that fit these shocks?

I was thinking the same thing. Yamaha acc. has the covers for the front floats so I don't see why we wouldn't see some for a mega float.

I don't see how you could cover it without giving snow/ice and water a place to collect around the body of the shock, which would totally destroy the shock.

though it is not intended for a megafloat specifically this might work: http://lizardskins.com/store/products/m ... nsion-boot
Personally I'm not of the mind set that it needs to be covered and think that a cover might do more harm than good (think of snirt working its way underneath the cover and grinding away at the shock).

^^ pretty much whats i was trying to get across, lol!

When I ran Floats in my Expert X, one of the shafts was damaged from trail debris. Hopefully that proves to be fluke and we see many hig mileage Mega Floats.

they have been selling shock covers for years. this is the first time i have ever heard of shock covers creating the issues you speak of and damaging shocks.
i have been running shock covers on my front floats for the last 7000 miles with no issues.

I dont think your thinking about it the way i am. Normal shocks have hardened steel shafts with steel springs, and most shock covers made for these shocks cover the whole shock. So if anything gets on the shock it really doesn't phase it.
A fox float has a very vulnerable wide shaft, thats easy to hurt, any nick can easily ruin it.
Now if you give snirt, snow, water, mud, dirt etc something to hang on to and build up around that shaft every moment of the shock can destroy it.
I'm thinking of the small plastic covers i see people use on the front floats all the time to cover the shaft, a full cover of some sort might be ok.

Theres ALOT more build up, freezing in the skid area then there is on the front end, so remember that when thinking of shock cover ideas. Also the way the rear shock is mounted is different as well.

My brother has Floats on his machine. One leaks air, and if he doesn't pump it up on a regular basis the machine will eventually end up tilting to the left.

If these shocks are damaged, they will still work but they slowly loose pressure.

so after reading the responses i decided to contact fox tech service.
i got a response to my question from a guy named Lars Matheney
here is his answer.

Hi Steven,
We can’t say for sure what the impact would be of using a shock cover on the Mega Float. As far as covering the shock, what you see externally is not a sealing surface for air so if your concern is for damage you don’t really need it.

You will have to try it if you feel inclined, we do not supply a cover more than the shock guards and we very seldom have a failure.
