I have metal shavings in my oil. Did an oil change, had a light come on and an oil indicator on dash. Checked oil and it was where supposed to be. Wrode it about 12 miles ran fine other than the oil tank was hot to the touch. Came home got the plunger and dipstick free light went out. Wrote it couple of miles came back on. Pulled out screen and cleaned it .once again I freed up the plunger inside the dipstick. When I put the oil back in I used to paint strainer and found metal debris small shavings and flakes. Any ideas?

not sounding good.

what year vector?

timing chain tensioner ever done? there was a recall on them.

Bought it used, 500 mile on it. Not as far as I know. Dealer I took it took said engine was replaced. No more details other then that. It's the chain in a oil at all. Sorry never have had or seen onnw apart.

you need to call your local dealer and see if it was ever done to that motor. i would hope so but.......

grizztracks is more versed in what happens when they go bad than i am.

You shouldn't have metal in the oil with a failing chain tensioner. Go here to read more about issues with tensioner: https://ty4stroke.com/threads/cam-chain-tensioner-replacement-3-cylinder-engine-05-07.90826/

I wouldn't continue to run the engine if you're finding metal in the oil. If it's not knocking and still running good whatever is going on may be repairable if caught before it does catastrophic damage. I usually pull the oil filter and cut it open to look for metal. I also like to determine if the metal shavings are magnetic. Removing the stator cover will allow access to check the counter balance bearing which has been known to fail, the starter gears and with a magnet the sump area can be checked for additional metal. If nothing can be determined from there then the motor needs to come out to examine the crank bearings.

Thank you for the reply. It appears that it is aluminum . Runs extremely well and quite surprisingly . Took it in to dealer to get it diagnosed . It's getting into unchartered territory and more in depth then my liking. Hopefully it can be repaired without digging into the bearings.

keep us posted on what they find.

Will do. Everyone is has been really helpful. Should I bring a sidewinder home?
