I would like to run this stuff in my apex..

the oil that goes in the Apex is 0/30. I dont see much of a differnce here to switch to fully synthetic.

Heck my truck loves it..

Ive heard good and bad things about running it in 4 stroke sleds.

Also, what is the compacity of oil to add including filter when you do an oil change.

Takes just a hair over 3 quarts to do a full oil change.

I have no opinion on the Mobil 1 thing, as I personally see no reason not to just use the semi-synthetic and Yamaha recommended Yamalube. But I am quite sure the 5W30 Mobil 1 would be just fine. These oil debates can be tiresome, for something that is frankly quite unimportant IMO. I haven't heard of a single oil related failure or problem on a single Yamaha 4 stroke in the time I've been here, and people run all kinds of different stuff in these sleds. But by your own admission, you've heard "good and bad things" about using the Mobil1. I haven't, but I guess my response to your statement is, Have you ever heard any bad things about running the 0W30 Yamalube? If no, then I say just run that...costs the same.

FYI Mobil 1 sells a 0W30 that's almost as readily available as their 5W30 in well-stocked auto parts stores. If I were to switch, I'd use their 0W30, so at least you're utilizing the recommended weight.

I have been using 5w-30 for years with no problems.

Mobil does sell 0w-30 but Sam's Club only carries 5w and that where that is were I but cases at a time.

Alot of people are running mobil1 in their sleds without blowing them up, there was a thread on here explaining what the differences where something about the chemicals in the oil. I usually just run what the book specs is and be done with it. Although when I ran a 2 stroke I ran Pennzoil Outboard Lubricant in it and it turned 12000 miles and was still running when I sold it. Since I paid $8000 for the 4 stroke I figured I would run what yammie suggested.

I didnt know mobile 1 has 0/30

Thank you for the information. If that weight is unavailable, I will use 5W/30.

I heard the oil filter on the Apex is a PITA to get to.

Who sells a filter relocation product now that max perf is out of business..

How much easier is the filter to get to.

Ulmer racing has them.

I have run the Mobil 1 5w-30 (w/no probs + no oil usage) in my '04 Warrior which now has about 6000mi on it.

Bob Miller, another TYer has also run Mobil 1 w/no probs.

Curiously, someone posted here a couple of weeks ago that they called Mobil (1-800-askmobil) and they DID NOT RECOMMEND it for Yamaha 4 stroke snowmobiles??? I have it on my list of things to do because I would like to know WHY NOT?
Not sure what the issue is but be aware that it IS an Energy Conserving II (EC2) oil - which Yammi says is a NO NO.

There have been so many oil discussions her that it is hard to keep track of what someone supposedly has found is BAD OR GOOD. Probably can't go wrong with the Yammi oil but we all know, Yammi doesn't make it and it costs more than other compatible oils.

Like cars, I think if we use what the manual recommends, there won't be problems!!

Thank you for the post. When you find out why mobile 1 does not recommend their oil for 4 stroke snomobilen can you post what they said?

Thanks, Tom

Mobil 1 has friction modifiers in it and that will affect the starter on the 4-strokers..I am not sure why Yamaha says not to use synthetic for there motors, does anyone know for sure why ???If a full synthetic does not have friction modifiers whats the problem....
