More 2011 Photos...

I doubt EPS will raise the weight of the sled very much, the system I use in my race car weighs 1 pound more than a standard rack and pinion, and we already have a battery.

I have dissasembled my Nytro and looked at it, weighed parts etc, it really is very well thought out as far as weight is concerned, with one exception, the rear skid has too many redundant parts and is overweight. The new skid in the 2010 Nytro SE w/Fox Shox is 25lbs lighter and very well thought out, I'm sure (hope) the 2011 Nytro has this skid and the EPS.

can you guys tell the difference in the weight of your sled when it is full of gas vs when it is near empty

Yes. And for sure when the sled is dry vs. full of ice build-up. Throw it around in the powder (or in the trail scenario described by Kråkan) and I am sure that you will notice the difference too.

And if you think the Yamaha chassis is heavy because it is strong, I think you are wrong. There are lighter chassis out there with no more durability problems.

Anyway, please do not get me wrong. I am not trying to be negative or trying to put bullshite on EPS. I am sure it is a great invention for a trails cruiser, but the obvious starting point for a cross country sled would rather be in the basic physics - more power and less weight.

Anything that allows the rider less fatigue over a long run will in turn give the rider more energy to focus on the trail or obsticals to negociate and increase average speed.

Ever notice at the end of a long fast run on a bumpy trail your concentration level seems to go down a bit as you slowly fatigue.

I never said it was a strong chassis at all, as a matter of fact I believe the opposite is true and the reason is Yamaha is trying to shed the heavy fourstroke stereotype and cutting weight everywhere they can and sometimes in places they shouldn't. There has to be some tradeoffs, as much as we like to we probably won't get to have it all. You have to decide what is most important to you and if weight is the number one thing then your best bet is a two stroke and probably a Ski Doo. For me I wanted a reliable power plant with great low end grunt so I bought a Nytro. Probably would have went with with the 1200 Doo if we had a decent dealer and it wasn't a first year product, I got burnt by BRP buying my 03 REV 600HO had 3 engines in 2400 miles, wasn't going down that road again. My polaris has been very good to me despite the bad reputation of the Fusion but lets face it, Poo is wayy behind in thier engines and with the exception of the 600 they can barely make one run. I thought about Cat but didn't want to stick my neck out on a first year motor in their 800 so I bought the Yamaha Nytro, so far so good 1800 miles and love it more every ride. I think EPS will be great even if it adds a few pounds and personally I think the Nytro could gain a couple pounds in it's front suspension as well. I think rather then cut weight on it they need to figure out how to get rid of the 80# of ice that accumulates when you ride. Would be money better spent rather then weakening something else

Forget EPS. Yamaha needs to read customer's complaints and work on that. Skis are the first issue. Why not have USI, C&A, or Curve make skis for them since they work. It sucks to have to spend $400 - 500 dollars on skis that actually perfrom. Secondly, durability is an issue. It seems that everyone has problems with hyfax, and parts failing. I haven't had these issues on my sled, but everyone seems to be ccomplaining.

But the one thing that needs to be addressed:

ICE BUILD UP IN THE TUNNEL!!!!!

This extra weight neatively affects the sled in performance, especially suspension and steering. An extra 50 pounds on the rear affects everything. Route the exhaust somewhere else. There is a reason why no one else runs it this way, and a patent by Yamaha isn't the reason.

More photos of the upcoming 2011 new sled taken in Old Forge, NY. Yamaha reps asked us to line up in front of their trailer for a group shot.

YES YES YES, I been telling Yahama on their surveys the same thing for the past 4 years.

Of course if you don't run stud, you could remove the protectors But in my case I can't, so I have to live with this ridiculous problem. :o|

its good

one thing i think about the eps. is wen i put it on my kawaski teryx

yes fatigue was gone but it absorbed tons of feed back through the wheel

if this does it for the handle bars and its an option fo the 08s and 09s i will definly.. buy it for mine

the eps fo the kawai was 1000 bucks and im happy with it if it weighs ten pounds ill still buy it

look at that new artic turbo talk about weight i was not impressed!! but they say it rails the trails????

The 2011 is supose to have a different style ski on it. So maybe they listened to you. I wouldn't get to worked up until they are actually released.

if power steering isnt that great of a deal, then why on earth is it on every car in america. how many people out there would buy a car without ps. impo, if they offer it on a sled and it works like they say id buy one!

If the 2011 Nytro has EPS and the lighter SE rear skid I'm trading my 09 XTX.

Maybe premature but I have already called my dealer to get more info on the 2011, at this point they hadnt even heard of EPS ?
