I just bought a new Attak and have been reading this forum. I see a couple of thing that I will most likely need to upgrade. One would be an upgrade to the skis or a modification to them, or get a new spring for.the suspension. I weigh about 300 pounds and from what I have read I will need a new spring to prevent bottoming out, but the darting seems like a big problem also. I just spent alot of money and don't have much money left for improvements. What would be the best bang for the bucks. Thanks in advance.

Don't jump the gun...ride it first and see what you dislike the most! Then go from there. Nice sled you'll enjoy it greatly!

There is no MUST upgrade really. Your weight will dictate an adjustment to the rear suspension and as far as the bars you can't order the upgrade 07 until they have a part number.

I am 325 ilbs. Here is what in my opinion you need to do at a minimum.
1. Big Boy spring set at second clip and second or third notch from highest preload on collar
Even with this it will still bottom in swallows (bottoms of hills and whoops)unless you crank it all the way and then it rides like a mack truck.
I took Mrance's advice and took my shock over to shock therapy in Durand ,Mi. Bob is revalving it for me to give me a stronger compression stroke to prevent the bottoming. its cheap like 50 bucks plus shipping. The adjustment from factory is only a rebound adjustment hence mono shock "RA" rebound adjustable. You have to strengthen the compression to support us big boys..... That being said it is a great suspension once tuned.
2. carbides at minimum. the stockers are junk. the stock skis are junk too but many guys say with new carbides and shimming you can deal with them. I couldnt. You have to shim to get the front of the skis up. The factory setting has them front heavy and you will wipe out the front of your carbides in no time and then you cant steer and it darts like hell because of it too.....With my weight the stock skis just sink and trench like shovels stuck on the front..... I put powderhounds on for this season....
3. If you are tall you will want the bars higher. Too hard to stand for a tall guy with stock height bars. i am 6' 4". I am raising the bars with a 3.5 inch rox riser that bolts onto stock clamps and riser.
4. If you bought an 07 your warmers should be fine if its an 06' get the upgrade because the warmers on 06' were not full length.....if you raise bars you will need handguards a well....
5. studs. unless you are in all powder (if so you bought the wrong sled) you need studs on this machine. I ran 168 woodys signatures up the middle doubles and singles. ran last year without studs and this sled has way too much torque and horsepower to not have studs. I spun my track so much that the knobs on the ripsaw are bent over permanently.....
thats about it.... sorry to say but another grand and you are all set..... go ahead and run the stock skis but I dont think you will be very happy......the rest of it you MUST do in my opinion.......
p.s. i have a buddy that will get you stuff cheap. he doesnt do slydogs but he gets me most all of my stuff just above cost. i will give you his number and email if you want and just let him know I sent ya .....skis and studs pics attached.
p.s.s. You will have fun with no mods but you will bottom out and you will have a hard time steering and hooking up..... my honest opinion....

by the way easy sled to stud. flap folds up nice and lots of room for drilling. me and buddy did it in three hours flat with an electric impact wrench for nuts and small allen head wrench to hold studs. In fact we did his sled and mine in 7 hrs including a lunch break and slugging beers......

After 2750 miles last season on my Attak, I pretty much agree with monsterattak. I only weigh 185 without gear so I did not bottom out the suspension that much with the stock settings, only in big whoops. Added shims to the skis and Bergstrom 18" Triple Points with 6" carbides and 90% of darting was cured. They are available from Bergstrom at a preseason special price of $120 at this link.
Studs are a personal thing. My last three 121" sleds I studded. I rode the Attak without studs and really liked it this way and had no traction issues.

I would Say Studs are the most im portant upgrade do the the fact they help you to stop.
I would say Skis are second becuase htey help you to turn
I would say add the heavy spring becuase it will save your back
Last on my list is the Hand warmers.
